About the Book
In CONFESSIONS OF THE WORLD'S BEST FATHER (Gotham Books, May 2014, $18.00), author Dave Engledow confronts his worst parenting nightmares through cleverly crafted photographs. Engledow has created chuckle-worthy scenes of child-rearing combined with witty journal entries explaining each photo’s bizarre backstory. As if these hilarious memorable what-ifs weren’t cute enough, Alice and Dad made a video commentary on their favorite photo-shoots (she’s quite the critic!).
What started as a personal photo project for family and friends has ignited into an internet sensation. With skillful digital manipulation and more than a little patients on the part of Alice Bee (World’s Best Daughter), this comical portrayal of what not to do as a first-time dad pairs the visual aesthetics of Norman Rockwell with a darkly sense of humor. Watch the adorable Alice Bee grow up under the watchful eyes of her dad, as they both:
- Learn to mix and pour martinis for when Mom gets home
- Show how carving pumpkins, inside-out is the only way to go
- Perform house improvements… sort of
- Train for the 2016 Olympic High Dive (it’s never too early to start)
- Find the many uses for a bidet
- Prove the washing machine is a perfectly good bathtub
- And much, much more.
My Take on the Book
This was a hilarious book that really shows the innovation of one father and what he could do with his child while mom is away. There were so many amazing pictures of the author doing things that I could only imagine doing, but he makes it work and he makes you laugh along the way. The other things that was great about the book is that you get to see his daughter growing up right in front of your eyes, and you get to continue to see the fun she is having too. It will be interesting to see how long the author can continue doing this as she gets older and how long she wants to keep being a willing participant, I hope it will be for a long time to come. AT the end of the book you are in for a treat, as the author shares some tips that are priceless... just wait!
