Susie's Shoesies: an Educational, Adventure Series

School may be out for summer, but kids will be begging to read when they get their hands on this fresh, exciting children’s series. Sue Levine’s SUSIE’S SHOESIES is a collection of empowering books that combine history with today’s challenging social problems. They teach children about real-life issues, such as bullying, through a FUN and adventurous story for middle grade readers.

In each book, Susie and her friends travel back in time (thanks to her magical red shoes!) to meet an inspirational woman from the past. In doing so, they visit a foreign country during a historic event, and bring back the knowledge to solve problems in their school and neighborhood.

Kids love SUSIE’S SHOESIES because they feel like they’re part of the thrilling adventure. Parents and teachers love the fast-paced books because of the positive writing. The discussion questions and “word wall words” at the end of each chapter lead to Social Studies, Language Arts, and Character Education follow-ups that even meet many state standards.

About the Author
Author Sue Levine has dedicated her life to making a positive difference in the field of education. She has been working with children, families, and schools for more than 40 years as a Speech and Language Therapist, a Learning Disabilities Resource Teacher, college professor, and researcher. Sue also worked in the toy and game industry, inventing new products for companies such as Parker Brothers, Milton Bradley, Hasbro, Mattel, and Tiger Electronics.

My Take on the Book
I was able to explore the three books in this series and I have to say that all three are so much fun. Each engages the reader both young and old. Each of the books are very different from each other, but each incorporates history as well education. My oldest daughter loved the images within these books but even beyond that she enjoyed the story line and the characters. I liked the fact that each of the books shares some continuity between books with the characters, but also shares some great messages about positive ways of thinking, especially for young girls!
