Book Review - The GIANT Encyclopedia of Learning Center Activities: For Children 3 to 6

About the Book
This book contains hundreds of accessible, teacher-written learning center activities. The GIANT Encyclopedia of Learning Center Activities is the eighth book in Gryphon House's GIANT Encyclopedia series. The learning centers in this book can either be permanent year-long centers or set up and removed according to the season or children's interests and needs. Through play, young children learn to communicate, interact, and expand their cognitive thinking horizons. The GIANT Encyclopedia of Learning Center Activities provides the resources to make play meaningful and educational for young children.

This book offers:

  • Over 600 activities and 47 learning centers, including familiar, permanent centers, such as Art or Blocks, and new and exciting centers, such as Farm, Space, Safari, Shoe Store, and Ice Cream Shop.
  • Opportunities in each center for children to work at their own developmental level. Materials lists for each activity, step-by-step instructions, and related books, songs, and poems.
  • Fresh new ideas from teachers who have used these activities in their own classrooms!

About the Authors
These books are the result of a nation-wide contest that calls for original ideas from teachers in early childhood. Of the submissions, only the most creative and unique are included in the book. The authors of this book are teachers from across the country, and in some instances, across the world, who submitted their original ideas to Gryphon House's call for activities. Over 60 authors were selected to have their work published in this GIANT Encyclopedia. The activities selected represent the creativity and resourcefulness of teachers from all walks of life and all experience levels. Their contributions are evidence that teachers from all over continue to work hard to create effective learning centers to help children develop essential skills for life.

My Take on the Book
What was amazing about this book was the number of great ideas compiled into one place. With over 600 activities, let alone the learning centers, you are introduced to a whole new way of looking at teaching and sharing the world with your children. Another great thing about the book is the fact that these activities have been submitted and selected by a wide array of diverse authors, so you are not getting one person's thoughts on how to teach, but you are getting the best of all and these authors share their experiences and knowledge with you as you move forward! This is an amazing resource for any early childhood teacher and one that I would highly recommend!
