Book Review - Learn to Draw Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Learn to Draw Star Wars: The Force Awakens

About the Book
Learn to Draw Star Wars: The Force Awakens brings modern Star Wars iconography to life in stunning graphite pencil, transforming memorable characters including Rey, Poe Dameron, BB-8, and Kylo Ren (along with Leia, Han Solo, and R2-D2) into detailed, realistic portraits. Lucasfilm collaborator and professional artist Russell Walks guides artists step by step and provides insightful notes, drawing tips, and memorable moments for each character from the film. This book allows readers to develop and strengthen their drawing skills, while experiencing this legendary series in a whole new light.

My Take on the Book
This is a great book that allows you to really draw some amazing Star Wars characters. This is definitely a book that is not for the beginning artist as while there are steps it does go quite fast, with a lot of shading and more. That being said, there are some very cool images that you can make but it does take time and patience. This is a great book for any Star Wars fan!

Book Review - If You Give a Man a Cookie: A Parody

If You Give a Man a Cookie: A Parody

About the Book
#1 New York Times bestselling author Laura Numeroff, author of the hugely popular children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, offers this hilarious parody of her own book for the man in your life.

If you give a man a cookie...he's going to want milk to go with it...God forbid he should get it himself.

If You Give a Man a Cookie is a woman’s commentary about her helpless man and the chain of events that leads him on a journey from the bed to the bathroom to the couch and back to bed at nightfall.

My Take on the Book
My daughters grew up on the If you Give a Mouse a Cookie and other books by Laura Joffe Numeroff. This book was such a funny parody on the book and while it does have some stereotypes within the book, it is still a fun book that all will enjoy. The book follows a similar path as many of her other books have in the past. You can tell that the illustrator within this book is different than in past books, but Brian Ajhar's work is still great! The book is geared for women to read as it does portray men as helpless and a bit hapless too, but in reading this as a man, I know it is all in fun.

Book Review - Tyrannosaurus Ralph

About the Book
Dinosaurs plus bullies plus aliens plus hijinks equal a wacky new graphic novel kids will love!

Ralph is just trying to get home from school without getting picked on by the local bully.

He's not trying to run smack into that bully. He's also not trying to wake up hours later in the body of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. And he's DEFINITELY not trying to do battle in an alien arena in order to save Earth from the evil Cloberus Crunch.

Unfortunately for Ralph, this is exactly what happens.

Armed only with a new body (with very tiny arms) and his wits, Ralph is expected to not only defend himself and his planet in hand-to-hand combat with ferocious aliens, he must also navigate a new world filled with all sorts of creatures Ralph has never imagined, in which it can be difficult to tell friend from foe.

This zany, hilarious story will appeal to anyone who loves dinosaurs, aliens, and adventure.

My Take on the Book
This was a great book that was filled with a ton of humor, action and great artwork throughout the book. The characters in this book were memorable and even though the story is a bit different, it was a fun romp through a world unlike our own. As mentioned, the artwork was stunning and really jumped off the page. I loved reading this along with my daughters!

Book Review - Munchem Academy: The Girl Who Knew Even More

Munchem Academy: The Girl Who Knew Even More

About the Book
Spring has come to Munchem Academy. The snow is melting, the roof is leaking, and Mr. Larimore is now in charge. Mattie is worried, though. Mr. Larimore is taking the whole "let's help Headmaster Rooney get back on his feet" thing seriously, and he's whispering all sorts of suggestions to the highly suggestible Rooney.

Then there's the matter of the school's weather. It's getting . . . strange. Mini-tornados sweep up out of nowhere. Rain pours inside. And there was that snowstorm-that yellow snowstorm-that lasted for two days.

Once Mattie, Caroline, and Eliot figure out what's causing the chaos (the Weather-matic 9000), who's causing the chaos (Mr. Larimore), and why it's a chaotic an idea (weather weapons!), they need to act. Fast.

There's only one thing to do: save Mr. Larimore-and the world-from Mr. Larimore. It's a tall order for a short kid, but Mattie has a plan. After all, what's a little breaking and entering among friends?

My Take on the Book
This is an action-packed fun ride through a very cool world with amazing characters that you will really appreciate (I know that I did). There are some twists and turns but in the end you will love the characters and the dynamics between the characters. I know that I loved the villains, weapons and more and how the characters work together to find out who is causing the problems and how they can stop this too! This is a book that offers you a fun ride!

Book Review - The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding

About the Book
"I would say it's a pleasure to meet thee, Prosperity Oceanus Redding, but truly, I only anticipate the delights of destroying thy happiness ."

Prosper is the only unexceptional Redding in his old and storied family history-that is, until he discovers the demon living inside him. Turns out Prosper's great-great-great-great-great-something grandfather made-and then broke-a contract with a malefactor, a demon who exchanges fortune for eternal servitude. And, weirdly enough, eight-hundred-year-old Alastor isn't exactly the forgiving type.

The fiend has reawakened with one purpose--to destroy the family whose success he ensured and who then betrayed him. With only days to break the curse and banish Alastor back to the demon realm, Prosper is playing unwilling host to the fiend, who delights in tormenting him with nasty insults and constant attempts to trick him into a contract. Yeah, Prosper will take his afterlife without a side of eternal servitude, thanks. But with the help of his long-lost uncle, Barnabas, and his daughter, Nell, a witch-in-training, it seems like Prosper has at least a fighting chance of ridding himself of Alastor before the demon escapes and wreaks havoc on his family.

Little does Prosper know, the malefactor's control over his body grows stronger with each passing night and there's a lot Alastor isn't telling his dim-witted (but admittedly strong-willed) human host.

From #1 New York Times best-selling author Alexandra Bracken comes a tale of betrayal and revenge, of old hurts passed down from generation to generation. Can you ever fully right a wrong, ever truly escape your history? Or will Prosper and Alastor be doomed to repeat it?

My Take on the Book
I loved the characters within this story! You are going to be drawn into the story itself from beginning to end with the different world that is created around the characters. Each chapter definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and there is a big cliffhanger at the end which makes you want to come back for the next book which is to come. There were definite twists and turns in the book that kept me wondering what would come next and the ending was definitely a surprise. The main character in this book has a great self-deprecating humor that I appreciated. My oldest daughter also read this and she too seemed to love the book as much as I did! The book is dark and a bit strange but it is one that was fun none-the-less. I am really looking forward to Book 2!

Book Review - Monsterland

Monsterland

About the Book
Welcome to Monsterland—the scariest place on Earth.

Wyatt Baldwin's senior year is not going well. His parents divorce, then his dad mysteriously dies. He’s not exactly comfortable with his new stepfather, Carter White, either. An ongoing debate with his best friends Melvin and Howard Drucker over which monster is superior has gotten stale. He’d much rather spend his days with beautiful and popular Jade. However, she’s dating the brash high-school quarterback Nolan, and Wyatt thinks he doesn’t stand a chance.

But everything changes when Wyatt and his friends are invited to attend the grand opening of Monsterland, a groundbreaking theme park where guests can interact with vampires in Vampire Village, be chased by werewolves on the River Run, and walk among the dead in Zombieville.

With real werewolves, vampires and zombies as the main attractions, what could possibly go wrong?

My Take on the Book
I love a good book with great monsters in it, but even I do not know if I would like to visit a park where the attractions were said monsters. This book was a fun one to read, you get a bit of fantasy, drama, some mystery and adventure all thrown into one. The mix of characters was great and you will love seeing what happens when you have all of these monsters together. Check out this great book, you will not be disappointed that you did!

Book Review - Mistress of All Evil: A Tale of the Dark Fairy

Mistress of All Evil: A Tale of the Dark Fairy

About the Book
The tale is told as if it's happening once upon a dream: the lovely maiden meets her handsome prince in the woods. The story has been told many times and in many ways. But always the maiden finds out that she is a princess-a princess who has been cursed by a dark fairy to prick her finger on a spindle and fall into an eternal sleep. Though her three good fairies try to protect her, the princess succumbs to the curse. But the power of good endures, as her true love defeats the fire-breathing dragon and awakens the princess with true love's first kiss. The two live happily ever after.

And yet this is only half the story. So what of the dark fairy, Maleficent? Why does she curse the innocent princess? What led to her becoming so filled with malice, anger, and hatred? Many tales have tried to explain her motives. Here is one account, pulled down from the many passed down through the ages. It is a tale of love and betrayal, of magic and reveries. It is a tale of the Mistress of All Evil.

My Take on the Book
Amazing story that you will love to read if you are a Maleficent fan. This may not be the exact story that you may be expecting but it is a book that was very interesting and definitely one that shed light on the story behind Maleficent. This story brings out so much more about this great character that you would not have known otherwise. I am so glad to have read this and if you are a fan of this great character, you will be too!
