Under Malick’s careful direction THE TREE OF LIFE showcases complicated and haunting powerhouse performances by Academy-Award® nominee Brad Pitt (Fight Club), Academy Award® winner Sean Penn (Milk, Mystic River) and newcomer Jessica Chastain (The Help).

An impressionistic story of a Midwestern family in the 1950's, the film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack (played as an adult by Sean Penn), through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father (Brad Pitt).

Fox Searchlight Pictures and River Road Entertainment present THE TREE OF LIFE, written and directed by Terrence Malick and starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain. The producers are Sarah Green, Bill Pohlad, Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Grant Hill.

My Take on the DVD
Talk about a star-studded cast. This was a movie that sounded interesting but was not one that I knew anything about. I looked up the film prior to watching it and found that the film itself was a bit polarizing, with many who enjoyed it, but others having a very different experience. In watching it myself I have to say that the DVD was masterfully done. With strong acting and a storyline you are drawn into the film and you are kept there as the film progresses. The DVD attacks your senses and is one that you do have to think about and process. The movie is not one where you sit back and enjoy (not that the movie is not enjoyable). Instead you are asked to reflect and soak in the message of the film. The music and imagery were perfect and the movie truly did make me think! I encourage you to watch and share what you thought!
