Book Review - The Lego Ideas Book

About the Book
The LEGO Ideas Book is a collection of all-new LEGO building projects, showing tips to supplement and enhance your LEGO creations, inspirational builds, and expert advice from LEGO Master Builders. The book does not show strict step by steps but rather inspires and encourages readers by showing how to adapt and expand models.

The LEGO Ideas Book is packed full of tips from expert LEGO builders on how to make jet planes reach new heights, create fantastic fortresses, swing through lush jungles, have fun on the farm, and send space shuttles out of this world!

The book is divided into six themed chapters:

  • VEHICLES of all shapes and sizes
  • BUILDINGS, from houses and farms to furniture and bridges
  • SPACE, with attack ships, moon buggies, and aliens
  • CASTLES to defend or invade
  • FANTASY, including pirate ships, robots, and jungle temples
  • PRACTICAL MAKES, from picture frames to treasure chests

Each section will have basic templates of key models (for instance, car or castle) and following spreads will show how to vary the models and adapt your own (for instance, adapting a car into a racing car or adding a drawbridge to a castle). There will also be feature spreads focusing on Master Builders, who will share their top tips. The book includes all-new models and ideas and all-new artwork/photography.

The book assumes that users have a basic array of LEGO bricks (perhaps 100-200 standard bricks), and includes suggestions for alternatives and way to customize the builds (adding rocket fuel tanks and super-wide tires to a motorbike, for instance), it also shows how to simplify details if they haven't got the right bricks, making this a user-friendly book for any ability. The LEGO Ideas Book is a visual treasury of building ideas, trips and tricks to inspire you!

My Take on the Book
As a person that has always loved LEGO products this book was amazing. I loved the full color images and all of the ideas that are contained within the book itself. I was amazed to find that the ideas were so straight forward and how creative the ideas were. You get ideas that span the gamut from easy to develop to ones that will take more time. What was great about the book is that it makes you think outside of the box and helps you to realize that there are so many different things that you can do with your LEGOs that you may not have been doing in the past. So no longer do you need to worry about the original instructions on the box, this book helps you to explore and create new things with the existing LEGOs that you have already.

One thing that the book does not have is step-by-step instructions, so you do have to read through and look closely at the pictures if you wish to completely recreate the images that you see.

All-in-all this was a great book full of images that just pop off the page! If you love LEGO, you will love this book!
