Book Review - Boomer and Halley: Election Day

About the Book
A special election is being held in Shady Pines. The folks in town think Mayor Beauregard Fibbs might not be telling the truth about some things. They are demanding answers. Somebody will have to take on the mayor and his policies. Hit the campaign trail and learn some valuable Little Lessons about life. Watch as Boomer and Halley get caught up in the political process as only they can. And, of course, Harold and Edna have some banner ideas of their own. You won't want to miss even a minute of politics in a small Southern town!

Recommended for ages 4-8 years old.

My Take on the Book
The book is one of a series of books written to assist adults in helping their children make good choices. Mary Jane McKittrick believes that teaching children to become respectful, disagree politely, and to problem solve needs to be taught at an early age.The book is an interactive book between the adult reader and the child. Within the story are specific places set aside for discussion.

The big lessons in the story are: honesty, forgiveness, responsibility, and pet care. The story is about a town's problems, an election for the town's mayor, and ultimately cooperation among the people of the town which creates an avenue of discussion to solve the town's problems. How timely this book in in light of the political events now occurring in our own country. I believe you will find the discussions of the towns people and the problems similar to ones many communities are currently experiencing.

At the end of the book the author includes a website for "fun things to do". The site has activities to download. She includes an e-mail address for those wishing to correspond with her.

Once you enjoy this story with your child, I believe you might be interested in looking into the other books in the series.
