Marian Jordan - accomplished author, speaker and founder of Redeemed Girl Ministries – was inspired to write her fifth book, Girlfriend’s Guidebook; Navigating Female Friendships (B&H Books, Oct 2011), after experiencing the highs and lows of a backpacking trip across Europe with four girlfriends. (Full press release and artwork below.)
The book charts a pathway through feelings that often accompany female friendships - jealousy, competition, manipulation and resentment – and encourages women to cultivate deeper bonds built on Christ-like honesty and love, emphasizing loyalty, trustworthiness and compassion.
Some items Marian discusses in the book:
- Men vs. women: Why female friendships are more complicated.
- The definition of “friend”, according to the Bible and how modern society has cheapened the meaning.
- What a healthy, loving female friendship looks like.
- Details of the backpacking trip that inspired The Girlfriends Guidebook.
While I am not a woman... imagine that, I do have a household of them and can see the drama that can come into the relationships that they can have with other women. This book is filled with some amazing tips that he is sharing with women about what true friendship should look like between women and how the relationships between them are important to the psyche of any woman. What I loved about the book was how down to earth the author was and how matter of fact that she was in the tips that she shared. I have to say that in looking at this book, her tips make sense and I can see how any woman would find this to be an essential book to pave the way to better friendships in the future!
