Book Review - Nicholas: A Massachusetts Tale

About the Book
To a small field mouse from Massachusetts, family is everything! A lovely leather journal chronicles all the important events of his family’s history. When it is destroyed in a flood, Nicholas will set off across the state of Massachusetts in search of his uncle and a copy of the precious journal. Along the way, he’ll meet many friends and explore the many diverse areas that make up Massachusetts—the Berkshire Mountains, Quabbin reservation, Wachusetts, Gloucester, Boston, Plymouth, and finally Martha’s Vineyard.

Book One in a four-book series about Nicholas’s adventures in the Northeast. Other titles will visit Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

My Take on the Book
This it was a great book for kids that allowed them to be able to understand some of the history of Massachusetts through the eyes of a fine mouse character named Nicholas. Throughout the story Nicholas not only learns about the world around him but also makes a number of friends that will help him along the way. The author is done a great job in bringing the characters to life and allowing the reader to identify with the characters and what they're going through. I liked the fact that my kids could learn about a state where they've never gone through this book. Thus, not only are readers getting a enjoyable story, they are also being educated along the way.this is a well-written story that all will enjoy. They're wonderful illustrations throughout by the same illustrator that illustrated the Kathy –Jo Wargin stories of Mitt & Minn. You are drawn to the story even further through the beautiful pencil drawings in the story. I have to say that my kids and I really enjoyed the book and are looking forward to continuing to read the stories in this series as well.
