Care 101: Care.com Launches Largest “College Caregivers” Program

Care.com, the premier source of trustworthy family care options, announced the launch of College Caregivers, a program that connects university student caregivers with local families seeking care.  Launching with more than 7,000 universities, including top institutions such as Arizona State University, Boston College, Michigan State University and Yale University, College Caregivers is the largest program of its kind providing a hub for those looking for babysitters, pet sitters, senior caregivers and tutors in college towns across the nation.
With the College Caregivers program, families can search mom-reviewed profiles of thousands of students that are affiliated with the college or university in the town or city that they live in.  Care.com also gives families access to background checks, adding a layer of confidence and security when making important decisions regarding personal family care needs.

“When families look for care options – they need hyper-local solutions,” said Sheila Lirio Marcelo, Care.com founder and CEO.  “We developed this program so that people could access trustworthy, affordable and quality care from college students in their local communities and we are confident that it will be a helpful resource for families.”
With the start of the fall semester, the College Caregivers program is helping provide job opportunities for thousands of student care providers nationwide as they search for part-time child care positions and other flexible seasonal caregiving opportunities.  Students may register on the Care.com site for free and upload pictures, videos, experience information, qualifications and references.

“Engaging student care providers in more than 7,000 communities will help Care.com move forward in its mission to give all families access to the local, first-rate providers they seek to care for their children and improve work / life balance,” said Marcelo.  “With the costs of tuition continuing to rise, this program also provides an opportunity for students to find flexible jobs that will help them manage school costs.”
Care.com also provides a number of additional services and resources to help families everywhere find the right solution for their caregiving needs, including:
  • Articles on child care, special needs care, tutoring, senior care, pet care and housekeeping
  • Essential guides that provide all the basics you need to know to find the right care
  • A babysitter pay calculator that suggests a base pay rate for child care based on your ZIP Code
