Book Review - Theo's Mood: A Book of Feelings
About the Book
It's Mood Monday and Miss Cady's class is sharing how they feel after the weekend. But Theo doesn't know whether he's in a good mood or a bad mood. He has a new baby sister and he isn't just happy like Eric who got a new bike or sad like April who lost her dog. As Theo's classmates discuss all their feelings, he realizes he's not in a good mood or a bad mood--he's all those things!
My Take on the Book
If you have a child who will become an older brother or sister , this story may help with the transition of having a new sibling in the house.
The author relates all kinds of feelings a child could experience when a new sibling arrives. She displays the emotions by using Theo's friends in the story. The culmination is Theo's own expression of his emotions which are multiple but eventually show his joy as he meets and accepts his new baby sister.
A parent who is proactive with the preparation for a new sibling will of course make the acceptance of a new brother or sister a successful family experience. Maryann's book may be a resource that assists you with this preparation for the older child.
