Book Review - Advice from Dad

About the Book
From a troubled youth of drug addiction and multiple arrests—to first in his law school class at UCLA, entertainment attorney and author Schuyler M. Moore writes Advice From Dad: Life Lessons Learned the Hard Way not just for his daughters.

Advice from Dad is a charming book that reads like a letter to Moore’s daughters, but the lessons learned are for anyone who wants success. Part memoir, part advice book, the author writes with candid humor about his life, drawing on experiences both good and bad, to provide insight and wisdom.

Having raised two strong, compassionate daughters, both of whom now attend Harvard, Moore has “living proof” of the value of passing on his life lessons. In addition to their Ivy League education, one daughter is a professional ballet dancer and the other is a nationally ranked high board diver.

Interspersed with interesting stories of his childhood and “suggestions” on everything from kids and studying to money matters and significant others—the end goal of Advice from Dad is success, with a strong emphasis on parental involvement.

About the Author
Schuyler M. Moore was named one of the top 100 lawyers in California, has authored several legal texts, and held positions as head of the Entertainment Department at a large law firm. Moore is also an adjunct professor at the UCLA School of Law and the Anderson Business School.

My Take on the Book
This book was insightful, humorous and down-to-earth. What I loved about this book was, like me, this father was the father of two girls, and his story here was so open and honest. You can see how much he loves his girls as well as how good the advice that he is giving them truly is. Though the book is humorous in spots, the underlying humor has a undertone that is serious and provides the reader a glimpse into what fatherhood is all about. I am always trying to help my daughters figuring out where their passions lie, and this book allows you to think long and hard about your own relationships with their children and what they can do to improve and increase your own engagement!

Wonderful book, loved your review. From the great cover photograph to the lessons imparted from Sky Moore, the book was a real pleasure.
