Families Celebrate Father’s Day Weekend at Animal Tales Extravaganza,
 Saturday, June 19th from 11-3 p.m.

WHAT: Ring in the spring with artist and author Alex Beard at Animal Tales Extravaganza! This spring series, hosted by the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo, features children's book readings by celebrity authors and illustrators from all over. On the Saturday of Father’s Day, kids will delight in Alex Beard’s whimsical book, “The Jungle Grapevine.” In addition to sharing his book, Beard will provide an interactive art experience, reaching out to children of all ages encouraging hands-on participation in the creative process Attendees will:

  • Listen to Alex conduct a read-aloud of his award-winning children’s book The Jungle Grapevine
  • Watch as the renowned artist creates illustrations LIVE, and show them how they can, too!
  • Engage in the creative process with Alex Beard through various activities
  • Get a signed copy of Alex Beard’s children’s book, “The Jungle Grapevine”
  • Participate in a Q&A with Alex Beard

WHO: Alex Beard—a renowned artist with New York roots and New Orleans wings—is redefining how people see art. By using unconventional avenues such as puzzles, strategy games and books to inspire creative thinking, Beard is breaking down the barriers between the artist and the public. Alex has created a successful line of thought-provoking artwork, strategy games and puzzles that appeal to adults and children alike. His book, The Jungle Grapevine, has received rave reviews and he continues to engage children in the creative process by hosting “Kids Days” at schools, libraries and other events around the country.

*Readings will take place at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Adult admission is $15, children (3-12 years old) $11, children under 3 are free, seniors (65+) are $13. Parking is $13 for cars and $16 for buses. The Bronx Zoo is conveniently located off the Bronx River Parkway at Exit 6; by train via the #2 or #5 or by bus via the #9, #12, #19, #22, MetroNorth, or BxM11 Express Bus service (from Manhattan that stops just outside the gate.)
