Book Review - Wilson Learns Manners

About the Book
Wilson, a very special poodle who was adopted by award-winning artist Susan Castriota, returns in the second book of the Wilson’s Wondrous Tails series to help teach children the importance of good manners. In “Wilson Learns Manners”, Wilson and his doggie friends find themselves in a variety of situations where they have to use good manners to get what they want and show their appreciation to each other.

Castriota wrote and illustrated “Wilson Learns Manners” as well as the first book in the Wilson’s Wondrous Tails series, “Wilson Gets Adopted”.

“Manners are a subject that is easily glossed over and forgotten in our fast-paced society today,” said Castriota. “However, the reality is having good manners and being a grateful and conscientious person is never a bad thing and can really help you be successful in life. In my new book, Wilson helps children learn the proper way to behave by interacting with his doggie friends in a variety of situations that can serve as an example to children on how to act in their lives.”

“Wilson Learns Manners” is a fourth grade reading level book, but young children of all ages can enjoy the meaning and Castriota’s illustrations with help from an adult.

About Wilson’s Wondrous Tails
Award-winning artist Susan Castriota has illustrated hundreds of custom drawings of landmarks and famous places for three decades. Her holiday greeting cards have been featured at Marshall Fields, Saks and even the White House gift shop. In 2008, Castriota was asked to design an ornament for the White House Christmas tree and she was subsequently invited to attend a reception at the White House hosted by Former First Lady, Laura Bush. Castriota’s calendar series, Pittsburgh Illustrated has become an institution that Western Pennsylvanians have enjoyed for the last twenty-three years. Castriota’s passion for drawing combined with her love for dogs was the inspiration for Wilson Gets Adopted, the first in a series of books, Wilson’s Wondrous Tails. Susan and Wilson live with their two other doggie roommates in Upper St. Clair, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

My Take on the Book
Wilson Learns Manners is another book in a series of books written by Susan Castriota. Susan uses her books to teach and inform her readers about important issues in our world. This particular book is an excellent parent/child book which will promote a discussion about the importance of using manners.

Susan uses Wilson to introduce a manner on each page. Wilson explains how he uses each manner in his life and then gives specific examples for us. There is even a reference to etiquette in using a cell phone in public.

Manners have to be taught and there is no age limit for their application. I feel this is a valuable book for any family to add to their home library. I could see it used in a classroom setting so that children can see that manners are essential in any situation.
