Book Review - 1,033 Reasons to Smile

About the Book
With all the impending doomsday predictions everyone is looking for a reason to smile these days. And why not? Smiling has been shown to relieve stress, boost the immune system, release endorphins, and even make us more attractive. It’s the natural drug. So put down the Xanax and pick up a copy of 1,033 Reasons to Smile. Whether it’s the sight of baby animals wrestling each other or watching pigeons fight over a Cheeto, there are more than enough funny, silly, and downright weird reasons to put a smile on your face inside this little book of joy, including:

  • When the person in the next lane lets you ahead of them in heavy traffic
  • When you finally get back into your own bed after being away from home
  • You check the calendar on a Friday and realize that Monday is a holiday

My Take on the Book
What makes you smile? Have you ever really considered all the events both small and large in your everyday life that bring a smile to your face? Author Elizabeth Dutton has creatively written a book of over 1000 reasons to smile. They are as varied as the people in the world. It will spark your own imagination and really make you consider your day to day moments and the smiles you encounter.

Here are some of my favorites from her book

  • Finding money in your pocket
  • Sleeping in your own bed after being away from home
  • First kisses
  • Rainbows
  • Hearing someone is cancer free
  • Butterflies
  • Receiving a "thank you" card
  • Someone you like putting their arm around you

Now I am thinking of my own smiles and here are a few:

  • My granddaughters spending the night and we eat popcorn and watch movies
  • A hug from someone I care about
  • A walk on the beach or on a mountain trail
  • Beautiful sunrise

Gratitude and smiles are all around us. Every moment of each day you can find something to smile about if you are observant. Elizabeth Dutton has shown us it comes in all shapes, events, hours of the day, and places. Read her book for inspiration and make your own SMILE LIST.
