Book Review - My First Biography: Abraham Lincoln

About the Book
Bringing the biggest life stories to the smallest readers.

President Abraham Lincoln thought slavery was wrong. He fought a war to hold the country together and to make it free for everyone.
With simple, lyrical text and bold, kid-friendly illustrations, this book introduces Abraham Lincoln to the youngest readers and inspires them to stand up for what's right.

My Take on the Book
Scholastic has created an excellent avenue to introduce children to Abraham Lincoln. This biography was written for young children. It takes you and your child from Abraham's birth in 1809, through his self taught schooling and becoming a lawyer, and finally to becoming our 16th president.

The story highlights important aspects of the Civil War and ends as President Lincoln signs the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.

The illustrations and short text on each page will capture your young reader's attention and curiosity. The story will be a springboard for discussions which could include topics such as: slavery, school in Lincoln's life, war, etc.

Nonfiction books like this one will help children gain important knowledge about individuals in our country. Learning about people may help children to gain perspective about their own lives and how they can compare themselves to others in a positive way.
