Book Review - My Dad, My Hero

About the Book

A young child starts off this laugh-out-loud picture book by listing all the ways his dad is NOT a super-hero: he can’t leap tall buildings, run faster than a speeding bullet, or shoot webs out of his wrists. Each spread of My Dad, My Hero illustrates how Dad may not have super powers but is still a hero at heart. The sweet ending depicts all of the fun—if not “super”—activities Dad does do with his child like throwing a baseball, playing games, and going to the movies. Long’s spot-on artwork perfectly accompanies this charming, funny story.

Long’s animated television series, Farm Force, won the Nextoons: 2005 Nicktoons Film Festival Viewer’s Choice Award and his animated short series ZeFronk, a cooking show starring a wiener dog with amazing cooking skills, premiered on Playhouse Disney in the fall of 2008.

About the Author

Ethan Long is a popular children’s book author and illustrator whose titles include, Mañana Iguana by Ann Whitford Paul, The Riot Brothers series by Mary Amato, and his own creations, Stop Kissing Me! and the popular Tickle the Duck!  The pilot for his animated television series, Farm Force, won the Nextoons: 2005 Nicktoons Film Festival Viewer’s Choice Award and is currently in development with Porchlight Entertainment. His animated short series ZeFronk, a cooking show starring a wiener dog with amazing cooking skills, premiered on Playhouse Disney in the fall of 2008. Long lives in Orlando, FL with his family.

My Take on the Book

I love super heroes and this book places dads like me in that role. The book was a fun book to read with my daughters and I laughed in many places where the dad in the story truly acts like an fool. The author pokes fun, but keeps it light and you can see that the intention in the end is to show how much the child loves his father and sees him for the hero that he is. A great book for fathers day and any day!
