Book Review - Dad to Dad: Parenting Like a Pro

About the Book
Dad to Dad: Parenting Like a Pro by pediatrician-dad David Hill, M.D. (American Academy of Pediatrics, June 1, 2012) is a parenting book catered specifically to fathers that has been coined as “the What to Expect When You’re Expecting for dads,” (Dan Tynan, Family Circle). Drawing on his own professional and personal experiences as a pediatrician and father, Dr. Hill uses empathy and an index of accessible advice—covering every stage of child’s life from birth to adolescence—to show the ropes of dadhood. Of course, Dr. Hill’s sage advice is not without a good helping of humor, he makes no shortage of jokes at the new dad’s expense. Part of being a dad, after all, is not taking yourself too seriously.

My Take on the Book
This was a practical, no-nonsense kind of book for any current father or a soon to be dad. I love the fact that the book covers so many areas that a father typically will have to cover. The author does this with a style that is engaging, and one that helps the reader to easily understand what he can do to change and better the situation. One of the things I liked best were the sections entitled "what You Can Do" as these were very practical pieces of advice and things to think about in relation to the topic being discussed. Even more, the layout of the book is conducive to learning and I know that for me at least, I wish that this book would have been out when I was a first time dad, and I plan to pass this book along to other dads as I believe that they will be able to learn from this too.
