Book Review - Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way

About the Book
Mayim Bialik is known to millions for her lead role in the 1990’s NBC sitcom “Blossom,” and for her current role on CBS's “The Big Bang Theory” as Sheldon's “friend who is not his girlfriend,” Amy Farrah Fowler. Bialik earned a B.S. in Neuroscience and Hebrew and Jewish Studies, and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience in 2007 from UCLA.

Now, she brings her years of study together with her first-person experiences as mom to write an altogether different type of parenting book. In BEYOND THE SLING: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way (Touchstone Hardcover / Simon & Schuster; March 2012; $23.99), Mayim shares her approach to parenting from a practical, personal perspective, offering her own insights and supporting them with solid medical and psychological research. BEYOND THE SLING is a practical guide to attachment parenting. BEYOND THE SLING assists in providing parents with the inspiration and know-how they need to raise secure, content, and compassionate children.

My Take on the Book
I can remember this author from back in the 1980's in her sitcom Blossom and now she has grown up and achieved the distinction of getting a PhD in Neuroscience. Not only was this an amazing turn of events, but I was pleased to find that this book was filled with so many great ideas and practical tips about how a parent can better connect with their children. One of the things that I really liked about the book was the real life stories that were shared in each section of the book as it really brought home the experiences that I had as a parent myself. You will definitely learn some great tips and tidbits that you will be able to implement right away, and what is best is that you will not be talked down to, but instead you feel that the author is merely speaking to you as a friend would. If you are looking for a book that will transform the way you parent the child that you have or will have in the future, look no further than this.
