Book Review - One Special Day
About the Book
Does having a new brother or sister make you into MORE than you already are?
Spencer is about to find out.
He's as strong as a bear, as funny as a monkey, and as wild as a tiger. But on one special day, everything changes. Now Spencer is strong, funny, wild, brave, free... and gentle, too.
My Take on the Book
Lola M. Schaefer has written a story that any family who has two children of different ages will enjoy. In this particular story there is an older brother and younger sister , but it can easily adapt to two sisters or two brothers.
It is a typical situation where the younger child wants to play with the older sibling and the older child is not interested . What I enjoyed reading and watching was the progression of the youngest child showing creativity with the play she decided to do without her brother. She was having a great time. The change occurs as the older sibling begins to join in the play of the younger sister in the story.
If you use the beautiful illustrations by Jessica Meserve, you will delight in the expressions of the older sibling as he decides to join his younger sister in the fun she is having.
This story could open up a discussion in your family about playing together. Maybe you can brainstorm activities that the children would enjoy together.
I enjoyed this story and I believe you will also.
