Book Review: Lysterium

About the Book
Why do family secrets always have to make your life unravel?

Bethany Shehorn decided to make lemonade out of lemons.

“I came from a very abusive home and started writing at age nine,” she said. “I'm also the memory keeper for my family and I’m very sentimental.”

“Writing has turned into an emotional and intellectual outlet for me, she said. “It turned into the ultimate way for me to be creative and channel my thoughts so that I could deal with the trauma I endured for 18 years.”

Her new book Lysterium is a wild driving tour de force of a fantasy novel with a female heroine whose life is turned upside down and inside out when she learns the truth about a long held family secret.

Her main character, Liv Worthington, has grown to become a successful newspaper editor-living a normal workaholic life in New York City, despite the devastating loss of her mother as a teenager. But her secure and comfortable existence changes when a chance encounter with a handsome stranger who has been following her, forces her grandmother to reveal a long-held family secret-a secret linked to her mother's death.

Liv discovers that the fairy tales her grandmother spun for over 60 years about her being from another world are actually true. As her past unravels, she is forced into a battle against evil that not only affects her future, but the peace and survival of an entire world as well.

My Take on the Book
Bethany Shehorn has created a world that takes your breath away in her first ever novel. She brings the readers along on a journey of exploration, filled with mystery, suspense and even a love story intertwined. The characters she introduces are memorable and ones that could be used in future novels if she so chooses.

The book  itself is an easy read and as a reader you are compelled to continue reading along from page on to the very end. The imagination that the author shares throughout this book was amazing and you truly do get lost in the beauty of the world that the author creates.

I highly recommend this book, you will be drawn into a world that will simply take you on a journey you will only want to continue!
