CD Review - Kool & the Gang: Kool for the Holidays

About the CD
In keeping with the resurging popularity of 70s and 80s sounds, legendary groovemeisters of the period, Kool & The Gang (koolandthegang.com), are releasing their first ever holiday CD, "KOOL FOR THE HOLIDAYS" (ATO/Caroline Distribution).

The Kool & The Gang holiday CD fare, featuring six original songs and eight standards, follows on the heels of their wildly-successful 50-plus city tour in 2012 with Van Halen and equally impressive 2013 tours with Kid Rock and the Dave Matthews Band.

Its melody flipped slightly, “Winter Wonderland” pulsates to a dance beat and a tasteful rap while “Little Drummer Boy” segues from jazzy to funky and “Joy to World” carries a contemporary R&B groove. As beloved as the CD’s original songs are—the Kool and The Gang-written holiday originals are bound to become classics on their own.

Their music has been created by the same core of players for over four decades: Robert "Kool" Bell, his brother Ronald Khalis Bell, their longtime friends Dennis "DT" Thomas and George "Funky" Brown.

As reported in Billboard during the Van Halen Tour: “One unqualified success was the experiment of Kool & the Gang's opening set. If some — actually many — wondered how the R&B group would fare in front of Van Halen's hard rock crowd, doubts were dispelled quickly with the breezy lite funk of the 11-piece outfit's 50-minute set, which had the T-shirted, beer-drinking, fist-pumpers dancing exuberantly.”

Unique pairings for Kool & The Gang don’t exist only on stage; their bulletproof funk and jazzy arrangements have also made them the most sampled band of all time.

With the explosion of hip-hop in the ’90s, Kool & the Gang’s incredible catalog of grooves has made them DJ favorites, and they are second only to R&B icon James Brown as sources of rap-music samples. The Hits Reloaded album found the band collaborating with such acolytes as Lil’ Kim, Sean Paul, Ashanti, and Blackstreet, among others.

Selling over 70 million albums worldwide the band influenced the music of three generations. Thanks to songs like Celebration, Cherish, Summer Madness and Open Sesame, Kool & The Gang has earned two Grammy® Awards and seven American Music Awards and amassed 34 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums. They have performed continuously longer than any R&B group in history.

“We are not over yet, we have other things we want to do—when my legs won’t run to those airports anymore then I might give up,” says band co-founder Ronald Khalis Bell.

As the purveyors of such booty-rocking standards as Jungle Boogie and Hollywood Swinging, the gang never fails to flex their funk – on both old-school workouts and hip-hop jams.

Along with the its original foursome, other band members include, Clifford Adams, Lavelle Evans, Larry Gittens, Timothy Horton, Shawn McQuiller, Michael Ray and Curtis "Fitz" Williams.
TRACK LISTING:

1. Home for the Holidays
2. Joy to the World
3. Christmas Always
4. Let’s Rejoice (Christmas is Here)
5. Christmas Tyme (The Perfect Time for Love)
6. The Little Drummer Boy
7. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
8. Winter Wonderland
9. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)
10. I Love The Holidays

My Take on the CD
The album was not what I expected. I am a big fan and was expecting some similar sounds to what I remember from the 70's and 80's but this was definitely updated. There were some songs that I really liked like Joy to the World and The Christmas Song, but then there were some pieces that included a type of rap that I just did not connect to the band and felt out of place to me, but that might have been me. I will say that is was great hearing some of the original singers again and I was happy that they finally came out with their holiday album!

Holiday Gift Guide - Zing Air Huntress

About the Toy
Air Huntress Z-Curve Bow/ Zing/ Ages 8+/ $19.99  - http://zingtoys.com/air-huntress/air-huntress-z-curve-bow

Zing’s best-seller gets a makeover! Decked out in pink, purple and sparkles, the Air Huntress offers fans the same high-performance play value in a flashy new appearance.

With the second Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire, due out in November, girls can aspire to be the next Katniss Everdeen as the Air Huntress offers a safe, realistic introduction to the sport of archery that can be used indoors or outside. The Air Huntress Z-Curve Bow can launch soft-foam ammo over 125 feet, a thrill factor for kids and parents alike! Aspiring archers can choose between far-flying foam Z-Arrows and stick-anywhere suction cup Zartz.

My Take on the Toy
This bow was a ton of fun! My youngest had a blast trying her aim at targets and I found that the more that she used it the better she got. I loved the fact that the projectiles were soft and if she missed her target the house would not be damaged. The resistance bands on the product itself were quite durable too and based on how much strength the user has the arrows can go quite a ways. Another benefit to this is that you can use it solo and you do not have to have a lot of people with you to use this.My daughter can simply go out and set up some targets, take aim and have fun! This was a cool item that I know we will use even more once the winter breaks and the weather is warmer!

Holiday Gift Guide - SOL Republic Deck

About the Speaker
The SOL REPUBLIC x Motorola DECK is the only wireless speaker featuring Super-Power Wireless Range and Heist Mode™, allowing up to 5 friends to pair at once and take turns controlling the music.

Product Features

• Powered by large R2 Sound Engines and a bass port for bigger sound
• NFC or Bluetooth pairing
• Speakerphone for hands free calling
• Acoustically transparent slim-fit case lets you listen to the DECK while you protect it
• Charges via mini USB cable

My Take on the Speaker
With a bit over four hours of volume I was impressed with the length of usability on this speaker. On top of this the sound quality was solid. I loved the portability of the speaker itself, and you can easily take it with you no matter where you are going or where you may need some amplification. One of the fun things with this speaker was the fact that five people can hook into it at once and using Heist mode you can steal each others' music and share it back and forth. This was a bit of a novel concept for me, but I have to say that it made a lot of sense to me and I am surprised to not see more doing this. The setup for this was easy and only took a few minutes. Just this past weekend we had a get-together which was not in an area of the house where music was able to be heard and this product definitely saved the evening. All-in-all for the price and for the additional add-ons this is definitely something that I would place on any of my friends' christmas want lists and I think you will want to as well!

The would-be escapees come up with a plan to deliver Santa's gifts and get themselves back to New York.

• Kung Fu Panda Holiday (2010) - Master Shifu assigns Po to host the annual Winter Feast at the Jade Palace, a very formal occasion where all the Kung Fu masters of China attend. Po needs his father to help cook, but dad has to run the family restaurant that night. Will Po lose face, or will things somehow turn out all right?

My Take on the DVD Set
This is a great DVD set just in time for the holidays. While some of these will be on television this fall, I love having them all together to start my own tradition of watching them along with some of the other classic Christmas shows that we typically watch together as a family. The collection of these were great and for my girls, they particularly loved Shrek the Halls and Gift of the Night Fury, but the other two were also a lot of fun too. All-in-all this was a great DVD set that I know my family and I will continue to pull out far into the future and your family will too!

Holiday Gift Guide - USB Supercharger

About the Book
The USB SuperCharger gives you the power (literally) to charge up to four iPads at the same time. And it's all possible with a single device using a single standard wall socket, leaving the other socket free for your other devices. Don't use cumbersome power strips, and don't hog up all your sockets. Get smarter power with the USB SuperCharger.

Four Full 2.1A Charge Ports — No Compromises
Competing multi-port USB adapters often come with a catch. Sometimes only one port is rated for iPad charging, with the other ports only able to charge normal USB devices. And sometimes, 2.1 amps is spread through the whole device, meaning multiple iPads will only be charged very slowly. There are no charging compromises with the SuperCharger. Charge four iPads at the same time at the single-charge speed.

Keep Your Students' iPads Charged During Class
1:1 iPad programs in schools are a promising new ed tech initiative, but they come with the challenge of having to charge a lot of iPads at the same time. Maybe your students have remembered to bring their iPads to class but forgotten their iPad chargers. Bring one or more USB SuperChargers to class, arrange them on the table between students, and you'll have an easy way to keep everyone's iPad up and running. Low or dead batteries can stop learning cold and defeat the benefit of a 1-to-1 iPad program. Now you have the right device to keep the lesson going.

The Group-Friendly Charger
Running low on juice during a meeting, presentation or lecture? The USB SuperCharger is perfect for conference rooms, seminars, lecture halls, and anywhere else a flexible power solution for iPad is needed. Simply set up the USB SuperCharger on your table or desk and everyone at the meeting can enjoy charging convenience for their devices without bringing an adapter. Plus, no more hunting for wall sockets!

Also Charge a Wide Range of USB Devices
Each SuperCharger port can charge any number of standard USB devices, including iPhone and other smartphones, iPod, portable speakers, Bluetooth headsets, cameras, and more. Everyone will have a use for the SuperCharger.

Portable SuperPower
The USB SuperCharger is small and portable enough to easily swap between tables or between rooms. You'll never be caught with a dead device!

Got multiple iPads? Don't settle for anything less than the USB SuperCharger — full, simultaneous 4-iPad charging from a single socket.

My Take on the Book
I have so many gadgets that need to be charged through USB these days. Tablets, Kindles, Phones, cameras and so much more. It is hard to not only find enough outlets, but also to keep everything organized. This product helps with both of these issues. I found that I could use this with so many different products, which for me was the best part of this product. I also loved how small and portable this was too. The product is just a bit larger than my hand and allows for great flexibility in charging and in using your electronics. They talked online about this being used in the classroom for teachers that are using IPads with their kids and I can easily see this as a great idea. With the fact that you only need one outlet, it makes perfect sense that this is a space saving product that you will be able to keep using for so many of your home products.

This product is made to make your life easier and it gives your IPad just the right angle that will make it not only easy to see and read but is aldo comfortable and lightweight, making it something that you will not want to worry about using, even for long periods of time. I also tried using this on the kitchen table and found this to be a great portable stand as well. Thus, this product is very versatile and works as promised. If you have an IPad, or you are getting one for someone this holiday season, you should definitely consider this as well as an additional accessory!

It's a Wimpy Wonderland of gifts this holiday season!

About the Products
Wimpy Kid paper gift products are here!

Jeff Kinney’s #1 bestselling Diary of a Wimpy Kid series has turned generations of kids onto reading. Just before the November 5 release of the hilarious eighth book, Hard Luck, we are thrilled to share with you the debut of official Wimpy Kid paper products. Journals, magnetic pads, and large and mini notebooks will turn those readers into writers. Make this holiday season a Wimpy Wonderland with these perfect Diary of a Wimpy Kid gifts.

My Take on the Products
I was lucky enough to try out each of the above items, and seeing that I live in a home that is full of fans of this book (and movie series) my girls love these new items. My youngest daughter started her own journal, practicing sharing her own thoughts and drawings (very cute). My oldest loved the mini notebooks, as they were easy for her to take with her wherever we go, and she now can record items wherever we go without worry of lugging around a large book. If your family loves this series too, you will love these new items!

Holiday Gift Guide - Playmobile RC Freight Train

About the Toy
Attach the train car loaded with cargo and transport it down the tracks with the RC Freight Train. The included multi-functional RC module not only controls the trains movement but also activates the sets special effects, including front and rear lights, warning sound, and engine noise. The front car houses the conductor, who can enter and exit the car through the side door. The cargo car comes equipped with a side door that folds down, making it easy to load and unload goods. Once the train is fully loaded, travel around the large oval track (56.7 x 45.7 in). Set includes two figures and three containers. Dimensions of Locomotive: 25.2 x 4.7 x 5.9 in (LxWxH).

My Take on the Toy
Playmobil has really amped it up with this new playset that they have developed. This train set brings amazing detail to a remote controlled train for all. The train works very well and has easy to use controls. On top of this you can also purchase additional track so that you can allow the train to go even further. The train is also very well made with high quality materials so that this train will last for many years to come in the future. I have to say that I loved that the train had working lights and sounds as well as working parts on all of the trains too. All of this allows the child playing with this to have a real experience with a remote controlled train for a reasonable cost which is not always a possibility for most.

I love remote controlled trains and have used Lionel trains in the past. The thing that I like about this train more so than some others is that there is a ton on this train that "works" for the user. The train is not just a train, but it allows you direct interaction with the train itself and allows your children to interact with the train and characters to build a world around the train and the user.

All-in-all, this was a great remote controlled train that I highly recommend to all!

This set can be upgraded with the PLAYMOBIL Luxury Hotel Suite (#5269).

My Take on the Toy
This was an amazing hotel with such detail that I have not seen in the past in past toys like this. The hotel was easy to put together and the amount of detail that has been placed in this was remarkable. My daughter loved all of the little extras that were provided in this, and seeing that she is five, this was perfect for her small hands.

The set really encouraged her to use her imagination and creativity as she was playing with this. The details that I was mentioning really was amazing.... down to toys in the toy room, they have done so much to draw the child in and to allow them to take this to the next level.

All-in-all, if you are looking for an amazing toy this holiday season that will encourage imagination, creativity and fun play time, this is definitely the toy to consider for your own children. I highly recommend this!!!

Whatever facial hair style you choose, whether it’s a simple goatee, a thin chinstrap, or a clean shave with sharp sideburns, you’ll be able to master your best look, even in the shower. On the back of the cartridge you can find the Precision Edging Blade. It gives you the ability to make crisp, defined lines and finishing touches. That’s the precision you need to master your facial hair style like a pro.

Unlike traditional gels and foams, this transparent and non-foaming shave gel gives you a clear view of the hair you’re shaving and advanced lubricants offer incredible shaving comfort.

My Take on the Product
I am always looking for a smooth clean shave and thus finding a razor that shaves close is important. At the same time, I like to keep my sideburns trimmed as well (and I don't always want to go to the salon to have this done). What was great about this product was that this razor does it all. Not only do you get the closest shave that I have gotten in a long time, but with the fact that this also has a power trimmer built in you get the best of both worlds and you can keep yourself well groomed.

While I do not have a beard or mustache, I can also see how well this product would work with someone that does, as it makes keeping things trimmed and clean easy, and best of al you do not have to have more than one product when you are traveling.

I highly recommend this to all, not only those that have beards, but to all who want to have a clean crisp shave and a well groomed appearance!
