My Take on the Book
Not only is this an amazing story, but it is filled with so many beautiful images that you will not soon forget. Beyond this though is a story that draws two deaf children together. What I loved of this story was the glimpse into deaf culture as this is not a culture that I knew much about. I also really enjoyed the characters and how well the author developed the characters altogether. I mentioned that the images within the book are ones that tell a story all by themselves. You can easily get lost in the images as you read through the story.
Depending on the ages of your child and what you have shared with them on the birds and the bees as well as what you have said to your children about having kids and marriage you may want to read this first as the character of Ben is conceived out of wedlock and it could open up questions of your children that you have to be ready to answer if they are to read the book.
The two stories that are shared within this book work well together and the author does a tremendous job at sharing them with his readers. This book is definitely on my must read suggestions list!
