Book Review - Leadership Stories of Mother Hen: Lessons on Leadership

About the Book
How important is the behavior of a mother hen in our understanding of human leadership attitude?

Extremely important, according to author Chukwudi Eze.

In his book, Leadership Stories of Mother Hen, Eze uses the mother hen as an allegory to discuss various traits of human behavior.

Eze’s book recognizes the many similarities between the behavior of humans and that of the mother hen. Realizing how leadership, or lack thereof, affects the well-being of the society, Eze pursues the answer to the question: How does leadership ultimately determine success or failure?

Searching for positive leadership styles amongst empowering figures, Eze references historical events such as Nelson Mandela’s opposition of Apartheid, Martin Luther King Jr’s campaign against racism and injustice and Eleanor Roosevelt’s fight for women’s rights in hopes of communicating to readers the many challenges of leadership and the benefits of leading by example.

Focusing on various leadership styles, Leadership Stories of Mother Hen examines the different leadership qualities recognized in humans, spreading the message that progress depends on responsible leadership.

With Leadership Stories of Mother Hen in hand, readers will be able to:

  • Understand life’s many opportunities and difficulties.
  • Appreciate the strength and purpose of a leader.
  • Become a significant and constructive force for human good.
  • Shape the world into a place of peace and prosperity.

“A book for all races, genders, nationalities and religions,” said Eze. “Leadership Stories of Mother Hen uses various historical events and characters to educate and encourage anyone facing the challenge and responsibilities of leadership on how to succeed.”

My Take on the Book
This book takes many amazing leadership principles and makes them tangible. I loved the use of the hen as an allegory for leadership. The book makes you consider the things that you do as a leaders and helps you to refocus your efforts on what matters. The author also makes you consider your moral and ethical responsibilities as a leader which is so important, but not always explored in leadership texts. I applaud the author at tackling this topic and challenging all leaders to strive for bigger and better. I highly encourage all to read this book!
