Book Review - The Story of The Great Pumpkin Man

About the Book
From wearing wonderful costumes to trick or treating, there are many ways to make Halloween a fun and memorable holiday. In “The Story of the Great Pumpkin Man”, readers will be immersed in the exhilarating festivities of Halloween through the meaningful adventure of two children. Written by Kirk & Sofia Rossiter, this book is a heady mix of vibrant illustrations and engaging storytelling.

In this fascinating holiday story, readers will meet a nine-year-old boy named Kirk and his three-year-old sister, Elena. Kirk tells Elena of their duties on Halloween: they are to dress up as their favorite characters, collect as much candy as they can and put out what they gather on the porch. The ever inquisitive Elena asks why they are not allowed to eat the sweets and so begins the strange and wondrous tale of the Pumpkin Man and an adventure that will teach the children a very important lesson.

Concocted with the right mix of holiday cheer, mystery and imagination, tales such as the one in this delightful picture book will charm both young and adult readers alike. An engaging visual treat, “The Story of the Great Pumpkin Man” is a great book to read and re-read all year round.

About the Author
Dr. Kirk Rossiter is a board certified physician with interest in childhood obesity. He and his wife Sofia Rossiters’ early research in the field of obesity and the brain has guided their interest and shaped the way they raise their own family.

Sofia Rossiter actively lectures at local schools shaping early childhood attitudes about healthy active lifestyles. At home the couple practices what they preach with their own children as demonstrated in their original work “The Story of the Great Pumpkin Man”.

My Take on the Book
In this story the Great Pumpkin Man retrieves candy children leave for him they received on Halloween night. The story tells of the candy being eaten by pumpkins who can grow to 1800 pounds. The Great Pumpkin Man replaces the candy with a gift for each child who leaves their Halloween candy.

This is an interesting alternative to retaining the Halloween candy. The Rossiters believe children should have have fun but have alternatives to the candy in order to lead a healthy life.
