Book Review - The Great Elephant Escape

About the Book
When two baby elephants escaped from the circus in 1975, it took eighteen days to find them. The authorities searched all over, but they were always one step behind this sneaky pair of fugitives. This colorful picture book follows these giant hide-and-seekers throughout Oklahoma as they evade capture for as long as they can.

My Take on the Book
One would think locating two baby elephants who had escaped from their circus grounds in Hugo, Oklahoma, would be easy. However in 1975, the people of Hugo found the elephants to be elusive and for almost three weeks they enjoyed their freedom in the countryside.

Una Belle Townsend has written a detailed account of this true story.

I believe you and your family will enjoy this nonfiction story. Make sure you read the last page which included additional information about the elephants after they were caught and returned to the circus.
