CD Review - Bari Koral: Family Rock Band

About the CDSinger/songwriter and certified yoga instructor Bari Koral has plenty to celebrate this holiday season as she looks back on a remarkable year. Rock and Roll Garden, her first full-length studio CD for kids and families, was honored with the prestigious NAPPA Gold and Parents’ Choice® Silver awards. Rave reviews and articles about Bari and her music have rolled in from a host of national and regional publications, including The New York Times, LA Parent, Time Out NY Kids, and more.

In the spirit of the season, and in gratitude to the many families who have supported her, Bari is offering Rock and Roll Garden at the “stocking stuffer” price of $9.99 through the end of the year, when purchased through CD Baby or her website: www.barikoral.com .

A favorite among NYC area families, Bari Koral has, in 2010, seen demand for her live kids’ shows skyrocket, with an abundance of invitations to spread her music regionally and in larger venues.  Looking ahead to 2011, Bari’s plans include  tours and appearances in New England, as well as shows on January 9th  at New Jersey’s South Orange Performing Arts Center and January 16th at 92Y Tribeca in NYC.  She’s also become a “go to” girl for many preschool fundraisers and family fun days.  Bari draws upon years as a successful touring singer/songwriter and as a teacher of kids’ yoga and music & movement classes to create shows that speak to the whole family, blending great songwriting with superb singing, musicianship and movement.

According to School Library Journal, “Bari Koral's lovely, vibrant voice is often compared to Norah Jones and Jewel.” Midwest Book Review raved, “Rock and Roll Garden is a musical treat that parents just might inadvertently find themselves tapping or humming to!”   Chattanooga Parent declared, “Rock and Roll Garden is merely a launching pad for what looks to be an amazing career for Bari Koral and, in turn, a heap of great music for you and your kids.”  Wrote L.A. Parent, “Koral holds a natural affinity to making music that appeals to the young and the no-longer young.”  The album’s popularity has spread as far as Australia, with Monkeytail & Wellington enthusing, “Real music from a real musician engaging with her audience is a refreshing change.”

Applause for Rock and Roll Garden has been overwhelming, not only from critics, but also from families. Says Bari, "It’s been such a wonderful year. This album has connected with children in a very big way.  A dad recently told me that the two albums he's heard the most in his lifetime are Dark Side of the Moon and Rock and Roll Garden!  I've had parents express that their children cry between songs, thinking the music is over.   One mom laughed so hard when her daughter's first words were "Hey, ducky."  What really blows me away though is that so many parents tell me their children constantly chose to play our music very often from among stacks and stacks of other CDs. Children have strong opinions about music, and I’m just amazed and so happy to have connected this well with them.”

My Take on the CD
Toe tapping, knee slapping good fun! This CD is a gem and in our kids point of view this is one that we have been playing over and over and over. Thus in our home this is a MUST HAVE for our music collection! Our kids love the songs and started singing along with them almost instantly! Just be aware that this music also are songs that will get into your head (along with your children's).

While we have never seen her in a live show, I know our girls would if she ever came to Michigan... I do not know if this will ever happen, but if she does, we will be there!

The album itself starts on a strong note and continues getting stronger with every song. I can honestly say that every song on this album is a good one and one that you will enjoy! They all are very energetic and you simply want to move with the beat of her songs. My kids love the song Hey Ducky and will sing it all day if they hear it once!
A great album for the whole family!
