Demibooks Unveils Astrojammies: The World’s First Demibooks™ Book App for the iPad

Demibooks, developers and publishers of richly interactive books for the iPad and other tablet devices, today unveiled Astrojammies, the company’s debut title.  Written and illustrated by author Stacey Williams-Ng for children between the ages of three and eight, Astrojammies is a fantastic tale, written in rhyming verse, about an ordinary boy named Jimmy whose hooded pajamas suddenly transport him to the far reaches of space.  Readers interact and guide Jimmy along the way, helping as he encounters characters, explores strange new worlds and dodges the many dangers of cosmic travel including speeding comets and a wily space baboon!

“The highly interactive features in digital books appeal to this generation of young readers, whose expectations are higher than ours were as kids. Because this format stimulates the senses of sight, touch and hearing, the story is immersive and exciting," said Stacey.  “The interactive features inspire them, and enhance comprehension by rewarding kids for their curiosity. And just like illustrations have always done, these features can engage children in a deeper conversation with the parent or teacher who is reading along.”

Once downloaded, the unique Demibooks experience allows Astrojammies readers to use their fingers to move and spin characters, launch a rocket, and squish into a planet made entirely of goo among many other fun interactive features. Readers also enjoy the sounds of a dreamlike original music score along with professional narration.

Quality digital e-books that combine good storytelling with rich visual design and interactive elements to create an immersive reader experience are extremely challenging to produce without massive studio and programming resources. This reality has been a major roadblock for writers and artists who may have wonderful ideas but neither the means nor technical expertise to bring it to life.  Demibooks drastically simplifies and lowers the cost of interactive e-book production by working directly with artists to transform and digitize their story concepts into a Demibooks book app.  Once developed, these book apps can be downloaded onto the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch or other multi-touch tablet platforms.

Astrojammies was developed specifically with the iPad in mind. Stacey’s concept about a boy, who travels the universe in magic pajamas, was developed using traditional mediums including pencil and hand painted illustrations. The Demibooks team worked closely with her making sure no stone was unturned and that every minute detail was captured before transferring her vision onto a digital canvas. “Seeing my paintings move and come alive was an exciting moment for me,” added Stacey.

“We are proud to have an entertaining and engaging space adventure book like Astrojammies as our first title,” stated Rafiq Ahmed, founder and president of Demibooks.  “As the popularity and influence of digital publishing grows, we will undoubtedly see many important pop culture works coming from this new genre of Demibooks book apps.”

Although Astrojammies is the first title, Demibooks will be launching several more interactive titles in children, young adult and other categories in the coming months.
