While we've never been to Fort Lauderdale (though we hear it's nice), Amazing Cows! strikes us as pure Boynton: smart, sly, irreverent and playful . Pick up Amazing Cows! and you'll get "two cow stories, three cow poems, eleven or so cow jokes, one cow myth, a cow comic book, and way too many unexplained chickens!" You'll also get humor, imagination, introductions to famous cow composers, a free download of "Bolero Completely Unraveled" played by The Highly Irritating Orchestra, word play, riddles, heroism, AND a look at the golden age of overambitious farm animals.
My Take on the Book
Sandra Boynton has been a staple in our home since our eldest daughter, Diva-J was a little girl. We would read Barnyard Dance
every night and sometimes even multiple times each night. Her rhythm and cadence that she placed in that book was wonderful and Diva-J and now Diva-PJ loves listening to it. This book, while geared toward older readers, still has the wonderful cadence and rhythm that Boynton shares in her younger fare and as we shared this book with Diva-J, she and we laughed at loud at many of the parts of the book.
I am particularly drawn tot he illustrations within this book and all of her books. For me it is the illustrations that bring the story to life. I know that in this book, some of the humor is still above our eldest daughter's head, but we know she will grow into it and she will come to find it as funny as it truly is!
If you are already a Sandra Boynton fan, or if you are just starting, this book is a definite keeper and one that I would highly recommend!
