My Take on the Movie
As a fan of DC Comics, Blue Beetle was always a character that I loved and I was excited to see it come to the big screen. One of the things that I loved about the film is that you get a true origin story that does follow the DC Comic storyline (for the most part). As in any comic film, this film has a little bit of everything for all viewers. You get drama, comedy, suspense and tons of action while surrounding all of it with a great cast that you can really connect with. As you watch the film, if you are a true lover of the comic, you will definitely find some hidden Easter Eggs that you will love (so be on the lookout). The movie was a ton of fun and definitely a movie I would encourage any superhero film fan to watch! It just flies by and in the end you will be cheering on Jamie and wanting to see Blue Beetle again in the future!

My Take on the Blu-ray
I was a fan of Kate Kane in season one but in season two I am even more drawn in by the acting, the characters and more. Each episode, while dark, as any Bat story tends to be, you will see a glimmer that brings you back each week. The episodes are action-packed, you get drama, mystique and more. I have enjoyed seeing Javicia Leslie embodying the Batwoman role and seeing her develop into the role. No person taking on the cowl will be able to fill a past Batperson's shoes right away. This is why they have a great team which we see in this series. You also see the humanity that this season's Batwoman has and that she is not fallible which makes her relatable. All-in0all, this was a great season and I am looking forward to season three!

Book Review - Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven

My Take on the Book
If you are a Teen Titan/DC comics fan or you love a great graphic novel with amazing images and a solid plot, this is the book for you. As someone that is a Teen Titan fan you really are drawn into the story of Raven and Beast Boy. You get to see their romance while you also get to see some of the light hearted nature that they have together, even though inside they are still struggling with inner-demons. The artwork throughout the book is amazing and the book itself is written in a way that you are transported into the action, drama and more, and it compels you to not put the book down as you want to know what happens next. This is a great story of love, friendship, acceptance and more.

Book Review - Unearthed: A Jessica Cruz Story

About the Book

Acclaimed author Lilliam Rivera and artist Steph C. reimagine one of DC's greatest Green Lanterns, Jessica Cruz, to tell a story about immigration, family, and overcoming fear to inspire hope.

Jessica Cruz has done everything right. She's a dedicated student, popular among her classmates, and has a loving family that has done everything they can to give her a better life in the United States. As the xenophobia in Coast City increases, Jessica begins to debate whether it's worth renewing her status to stay in the U.S., or if her family would be safer and better off moving back to Mexico. And despite her attempts to lean on her friends and family, she finds herself constantly visited by visions of Aztec gods, one pulling her towards hope and the other towards anger.

But when her father is detained by I.C.E., Jessica finds herself being pulled into an abyss of fear. With her father gone and feeling helpless, Jessica must find her way out of her fears and ultimately become a voice for her community.

My Take on the Book
This graphic novel has such a different style from other books that DC has presented in the past. It is a nice change and the story is fresh and unique. The story itself is action packed and engaging and leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat as you wait to see what comes next. The character in this book is someone that you can relate to and while I did not have a lot of context for this character, outside of knowing it came from Green Lantern mythology, I still was drawn in and completely entranced by the visual elements and the writing as well. The weaving in of concepts of racism, ICE and more make the story relevant and makes you want to read even deeper into the pages to see what will happen next. I was really impressed by the whole story and I think you will be as well!

Book Review - I Am Not Starfire

About the Book

Seventeen-year-old Mandy, daughter of Starfire, is NOT like her mother. Starfire is gorgeous, tall, sparkly, and a hero. Mandy is NOT a sparkly superhero. Mandy has no powers, is a kid who dyes her hair black and hates everyone but her best friend Lincoln. To Starfire, who is from another planet, Mandy seems like an alien, like some distant angry light years away moon.

And it's possible Mandy is even more distant lately, ever since she walked out on her S.A.T.s. Which, yeah, her mom doesn't know.

Everyone thinks Mandy needs to go to college and become whoever you become at college, but Mandy has other plans. Mandy's big plan is that she's going to move to France and...do whatever people do in France. But then everything changes when she gets partnered with Claire for a school project. Mandy likes Claire (even if she denies it, heartily and intensely). A lot.

How do you become the person you're supposed to be when you don't know what that is? How do you become the person you're supposed to be when the only thing you're sure of is what you're not?

When someone from Starfire's past arrives, Mandy must make a choice: give up before the battle has even begun, or step into the unknown and risk everything to save her mom. I am Not Starfire is a story about teenagers and/as aliens; about knowing where you come from and where you are going; and about mothers.

My Take on the Book
This was a great coming-of-age story that allows you to meet Starfire's daughter who is very much the anti-Starfire. That being said, you get to go along on a journey of her coming of age and trying to figure out who she was and who she wants to be. She also is trying to figure out who her mother is and how she fits into her own life, especially with how different she is from her mom. The book is great for any middle to high school reader as they will relate to what Mandy is going through and what she is trying to do to allow herself to stand apart from her mother. I appreciated this unique story and how it allows kids to be able to relate to the characters in general.

Book Review - The Mystery of the Meanest Teacher: A Johnny Constantine Graphic Novel

My Take on the Book
My 13-year-old daughter loves graphic novels and comics. She did not know what to expect in this book because she knew that John Constantine could be a very dark character, but as she read it she found that it was a great re-imagining of his character from a kids' point of view. As I read the book I loved seeing Constantine, not as the dark character that I knew him as but instead in a whole new light. The book has a great mystery within its' pages and in reading this, anyone that loves comics, graphic novels, and mysteries will really enjoy this!

As a father of daughters these are the type of books that I want my daughters to find to encourage their own self-identities. Book Review - DC Super Hero Girls - Powerless

I love these stories because of the great stories but also because of the characters and the relationships and friendships that you see between Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Batgirl, Green Lantern, and Bumblbee.

In this story the SuperHero girls will face a city-wide power outage where all electronics are dead and Batgirl especially suffers since none of her gadgets work and she is cut off from all her data and messaging.

This book allows you to go along for the ride to work to solve the mystery of who stole all of Metropolis' power!

The illustration was great and on every page you will be drawn further and further into the story too.

The book is full of action and mystery and throughout the book you will keep questioning until the end.

Book Review - My Video Game Ate My Homework

About the Book

My Take on the Book
This was a super fun book with amazing illustrations throughout that allows you to go on a very fun adventure with a very unique character. My daughter loves video games and this book really allows any gamer to live vicariously through the main character Dewey. In this world Dewey is able to enter the digital world to battle digital creatures and solve amazing puzzles to be able to go home. Will he make it home or not, you will have to read to find out. This is such a fun book for all!

My Take on the Book
This was a super fun book that not only had great illustrations but also amazing stories throughout the book. The book itself was short, but you get sucked into the book from beginning to end. The characters were solid and strong and if you are a Batman fan you will love this book and the stories that are within the books. The book is fun, action-packed and memorable. As a comic fan myself, I loved the book and would highly recommend this to all!

Book Review - Green Lantern: Legacy

About the Book

My Take on the Book
If you are a fan of the Green Lantern Corp. get ready for a fun new hero in the making. I loved that in this book the ring chooses a 13 year old which is around the same age as my daughter. The fact that the ring uses your creativity, I could easily see how Tai will be able to be a very powerful Green Lantern in the future. I also loved how in one book you not only see Tai learning about being a part of the Lantern Corp., but you also see him meeting and fighting a nemesis. I hope that there will be more books with Tai in the future!

My Take on the Book
This was a great Batman book. It is dark, with great illustrations and a plot that keeps you guessing until the end. The end is a bit of a twist but it leaves you wanting more! If you are a fan of Batman this is an amazing book you will not want to miss! The book was full of action, suspense and more! Get ready for a thrill ride from beginning to end!

Book Review - Batman: Damned

My Take on the Book
This is a story that was raw, full of grit and power. This book has a ton of substance throughout the entire book. The book itself is amazing full of a great story, great illustrations and more. This is definitely a dark book, but it is also an indication of where the story of Batman is going. The book itself really looks at Bruce Wayne and Batman. You need to take time with this book and really explore all of the intricacies of the man who is the bat. It is a dark book that for some may be too dark, but I will say that it is an amazing book that makes you think about Batman in a new way! This book opens the door to the future that is coming for Batman, so strap up and get ready for a powerful read!

Movie Review - DC Superhero Girls: Legends of Atlantis

About the Movie

The students of Super Hero High dive deep into their latest adventure as Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment bring you DC Super Hero Girls: Legends of Atlantis, the newest feature in the popular, groundbreaking universe celebrating young girls. The journey with the toughest class of female DC Super Heroes will be available on Digital ($14.99 SRP) and DVD ($19.98 SRP) on October 2, 2018. Special bonus content on the release includes the 44 minute previously-aired television special, “Super Hero High.”

It seems like an uneventful day at school until the powerful Book of Legends is suddenly stolen from Super Hero High. In order to uncover the mystery, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Bumblebee and the rest of the Super Crew must journey through the depths of the ocean to Atlantis. There, the girls encounter Mera and Siren, the ocean-dwelling thieves, who prove to be a formidable match. In order to recover the stolen tome and return it to its rightful place, DC Super Hero Girls must band together and use their collective powers to successfully get back to land…and back to class!

DC Super Hero Girls: Legends of Atlantis features some of the top voice actors in the industry including Grey Griffin (Wonder Woman), Tara Strong (Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy), Anais Fairweather (Supergirl), Mae Whitman (Batgirl), Teala Dunn (Bumblebee) and Stephanie Sheh (Katana) as they join forces to portray the youthful versions of some of the world’s best known Super Heroes.

My Take on the Book
This was a great movie that brings together a great group of super heroes. One of the things that I loved too was that the super heroes were all strong female characters. In this movie you get to see the students of Super Hero High under the sea in a fun new adventure. We loved meeting Mera and Siren and while Siren serves as the main villain, we loved to be able to see these characters working together and against each other too. My daughter loved seeing Wonder Woman, Mera, Bumblebee, Supergirl, and Batgirl all together again. She also kept telling me how great these characters work together as a team and I have to agree.

On top of having the great girl characters you also get to see great fun moments with Beast Boy, Katana, Flash, Starfire, and some others.

For me, this was a great movie, with good character development, adventure, suspense and more all in one movie. If you love the other DC Superhero Girl movies and television shows, you’ll love this.
