The Handstand Kids Mexican Cookbook
My Take on the Book
The forward is by Chef Aaron Sanchez. He relays his thoughts about family meals and how preparing the meals together can become an intense bonding time.He believes that children look to their families to become healthy, happy and productive people. He also believes children should experience the cooking of a healthy and delicious meal with their family.
The Handstand Kids are featured in this book with a short drawing and autobiography of each child at the beginning of the cookbook.
Let's take a look at a few recipes included in this book:
One recipe is FARMERS' MARKET CHIPS with pico de gallo, salsa, and guacamole. This is an easy recipe that an adult and child could assemble together for their family.
All children seem to like tacos. There is a recipe for FISH TACOS. The recipe calls for a mild fish like tilapia. The recipe not only includes the ingredients, but also the tools necessary to make the recipe and the step by step directions.
Another interesting recipe was the GRILLED CHEESE which was made into QUESADILLAS. Since most children I know enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches, I think this quesadilla version will be a great hit with your family. It is so easy. You use tortillas instead of bread. You put the cheese between the tortillas and cook. How easy and delicious too.
The cook book includes recipes for desserts at the end. Again simple and delicious.
If you are looking for a Mexican Cookbook for your children to use which gives the details of cooking tools, ingredients and simple to follow step by step directions, I think you will find this book helpful. It is colorful and definitely child friendly. Have fun cooking!
