Rocko's Modern Life: Season One

Flash back to one of the most beloved animated Nickelodeon series from the 1990s when Rocko’s Modern Life: Season One 2-DVD set arrives in stores nationwide for the first time on June 21, 2011,from Shout! Factory. Featuring all 26 wacky adventures of an Australian wallaby and his pals in 13 original episodes (two segments per episode), this DVD release has long been anticipated by fans but has not been available in stores until now. The collectible Rocko’s Modern Life: Season One DVD is priced to own with a suggested retail price of $19.93.

Created by award-winning animator Joe Murray for Nickelodeon, Rocko’s Modern Life is one of the most enduring Nick animated classics. The hit series boasts an all-star voice cast – Carlos Alazraqui (CatDog, Reno 911), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants, Transformers animated series), Charlie Adler (The Super Hero Squad Show, Transformers), and Doug Lawrence (SpongeBob SquarePants,  Camp Lazlo). 

A favorite with viewers and critics alike, Rocko’s Modern Life debuted in 1993. Over the course of its four-season run on Nickelodeon, the series garnered a Daytime Emmy® Award and an Environmental Media Award. Brimming with anthropomorphic social satire and offbeat humor, Rocko’s Modern Life follows the misadventures of Australian wallaby named Rocko, who encounters various dilemmas and situations regarding otherwise mundane aspects of life. His best friend, Heffer, is a fat and enthusiastic cow, while his other friend, Filburt, is an easily upset turtle who often feels uncomfortable or disturbed.  Ed Bighead lives next door to Rocko and detests him. These folks live in a bizarre district known as O-Town, and most of the episodes revolve around Rocko trying to cope with the absurdities and dilemmas he encounters in life.

Rocko’s Modern Life is a production of Joe Murray Productions and the Nickelodeon Animation Studios. It has been sub-licensed for home video distribution to Shout! Factory by Paramount Home Entertainment and Nickelodeon.

My Take on the DVD 
I was a fan of Rocko's Modern Life back in the 1990's and still am one today. I know that there had been an earlier release of the series, but this had been edited and I knw that a lot of fans were quite disappointed with this.

This DVD set is much better and brings out the best from the series! The set itself is very complete and gives you unedited episodes that you will love. 

If you ever watched this show you know how fun, crazy and off-the-wall it can be, but I believe that though it has been off the air for some time, this new DVD set will encourage new viewers to start watching the series yet again!

The Wild Thornberrys: Season One - On DVD 5/17/11

About the DVD

Paramount Home Entertainment, Nickelodeon and Shout! Factory today announced a sub-licensing agreement that will give Shout! Factory rights to distribute DVD and Blu-ray releases of some of Nick’s classic animated programs, including The Wild Thornberrys, Hey Arnold, Danny Phantom, Aaaah! Real Monsters, and Rocko’s Modern Life in the United States and Canada. 

The first title to be released will be The Wild Thornberrys: Season One, which will arrive in stores on May 17, 2011.  Produced by Klasky-Csupo for Nickelodeon, The Wild Thornberrys premiered in September 1998 and aired until 2004 with reruns airing on Nicktoons and CBS from 2002-2007. The Wild Thornberrys DVD release has long been anticipated by fans but has not been available instores until now.

The hit series follows the Thornberry family as they travel the world in their Communications Vehicle (or CommVee) looking for rare animals to film.After an encounter with an African shaman, their youngest child Eliza was given the power to speak to animals! Every episode in this adventure-packed DVD set follows Eliza as she comes face-to-face with an assortment of animals, continents and danger. Encounter wildlife in all its natural glory and eavesdrop on Eliza’s conversations with silverback gorillas, pythons, crested grebes, tapirs, capybaras, antelopes and opossums while the CommVee travels on!

Vibrant animation, exotic locations, charming storytelling plus an all-star voice cast, including Lacey Chabert (Party Of Five), Tim Curry (The Adventures Of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius) and Flea (The Red Hot Chili Peppers) make season one of The Wild Thornberrys an epic family adventure.  Featuring all 20 action-packed episodes, the collectible 4-DVD box set is priced to own at a suggested retail price of $29.93 and will no doubt attract a new audience of kids as well as young adults who grew up watching the television series.

The release of these DVDs is part of Nickelodeon’s commitment to bring back classic shows.  Nickelodeon will also launch a new nighttime programming block this fall on TeenNick called “The ‘90s Are All That!,” featuring a rotating selection of iconic live-action and animated shows from Nickelodeon’s 1990s.

My Take on the DVD

For anyone who has watched this show in the past you are in for a wild ride as this DVD set has it all (or at least everything from the first season). That's right, on this DVD set you are provided with 4 discs and 7.5 hours worth of The Wild Thornberry's.

I started watching this series with my eldest sometime last year and I found it to be a very funny show. Also, you have to love all of the animals and the mischief that the family can get into in the wild. I have even thought to myself, how fun would it be to bring my own family out into the wild (though I don't know if the divas could handle it).

Overall though, this was a great DVD set and one that I would highly recommend to all. Whether you have seen the show or not, go and pick this up and experience the wild in a brand new way!
