In the first section, Rack is trying to teach Rick how to fish. Rack is an enthusiastic teacher who tries to impart the fun in fishing, whereas Rick thinks it is boring until he actually catches a fish. Rick then realizes, once he is immersed in the activity, that it is fun and so he continues to fish in the story.
The second section finds our two friends hiking. The facial expressions and conversations are priceless. Rick is not enthusiastic about this activity and of course Rack is trying to make it fun. The two find some tracks and decide to try to identify them. Rack finally proclaims they are not a fire breathing dragon's prints but Rick's prints. This is a surprise to our two friends. The greatest surprise is the appearance of the fire breathing dragon at the end.
The third section takes place on a river with our two friends canoeing. Of course Rick does not want to canoe but Rack is showing him how much fun they can have in the activity. All is going well until Rick creates a mishap which causes the canoe to flip and they both end up in the river (with life jackets on of course)
I could see this book becoming a springboard for parents and children to make up their own stories based on their own activities using Rick and Rack. Have fun and enjoy the book!
