My Take on the Book
I was able to try out one of these bulbs and I was impressed with the amount of light that I received from the bulb itself. I came to find that the bulb did not have the flicker that I had seen in the past by some of the other lower quality bulbs that I had bought, but instead the bulb itself was steady and provided great coverage. I loved the fact that this bulb saved s much energy and would last longer than regular bulbs too. All-in-all, while I am just starting the switch over to LED, I am glad that I tried out this bulb.

My Take on the Book
For anyone that has had challenges with money in the past this book is a must have. The author walks the reader through so many practical examples and tips that can easily start changing your saving habits toward ones that will help you building that nest egg for a rainy day. What I loved most about the book though was how practical the book was. The author speaks directly to the reader and I found that almost any situation I could think of was addressed. Also, the book was an easy read and broken down into small digestible chunks, so you were not being hit over the head in any one area. If you want to take control of your finances, this is a book that will definitely open the door. Take a look, you will not be disappointed!

My Take on the Book
This was a great book that provides practical tips and resources for all parents to help their kids to come to a better understanding about money, money management and how to make good decisions for their overall futures. The book follows Dave Ramsey's style, or telling it like it is and sparing nothing. The book is filled with stories that allow the reader to make the story real and is not as brash as some of Dave's books can be (at least in tone). The two authors, being father and daughter themselves have a natural flow in their writing that seems to work well together. I enjoyed seeing how the authors share information broken down by specific age group so no matter what age your children are, this book gives you valuable information to help you with your children. This was well written and a very fast read. If you are like me you will find yourself going back to re-read sections as you are starting ti implement this for yourself!

Book Review - Secure: Finding True Financial Freedom

In tough economic times like these, many people are desperate to find a real sense of security. Rick Dunham, the author of “Secure: Finding True Financial Freedom,” found out the hard way that real security isn’t found in your paycheck, possessions or portfolio.

When Dunham was fired from his first job out of seminary, he seemed to be on the brink of financial disaster. With a wife and three young children to support and payments to make on homes in Texas and Southern California, bankruptcy seemed inevitable.

“Looking back, what I realize now is that God took me into a financial wilderness to teach me lessons that I couldn’t have learned any other way,” Dunham writes. “He was, in fact, rescuing me from a bondage that I didn’t really understand.”

When he was on the verge of bankruptcy, family members came to his aid. That crisis, and a similar one 20 years later, taught him a valuable lesson.

“Money promises a security it can never deliver,” he writes. “Our hearts have been seduced and ensnared by the promise of freedom, peace and security when in fact, money only turns our hearts away from fully following after God and His purposes.”

Rick Dunham is a 35-year veteran in direct response marketing, fundraising, and communications for nonprofit organizations. He is the founder and CEO of Dunham+Company, an international consulting firm that assists more than 50 ministries worldwide in their communications and fundraising needs. Rick is the author of If God Will Provide, Why Do We Have to Ask for Money? and has also been published and quoted in The Washington Post, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, USA Today, Townhall.com, and Church Executive, and has served as a commentator on Fox Business News as well as radio stations and networks across the U.S. Rick also serves on the board of the Giving Institute, the publisher of Giving USA, the annual report on philanthropy in America.

My Take on the Book
This was a great resource for anyone that is trying to get a better understanding on finances and what all of the frustrating and complex financial terms mean. Too often I know that I get confused and as I was not a finance major, this book really opened my eyes to better understanding some of the intricacies of money and how this relates to my spirituality and spiritual giving.
The book was clear and concise and really makes you think about what you give to the church as well as other aspects of your life. It makes you think about how you are spending your money and whether you are living like a king or giving back to the God who created you. The book opened my eyes and made me reconsider many things in how I am giving right now. 

Know that this book will make you look internally and it will challenge you to make changes to the way you are living your life and giving more back to the Church and to God. At the end of the book you will see your money in a very different way!

The book is clear, to the point, and lays everything on the line to allow you to make better choices and to become in more control of your finances for the present and future!

Surefire Ways to Save Money Every Time You Shop

Do you dread “sticker shock” when you go the store?  It seems like everything keeps increasing in price, and groceries have become so expensive. However, if you shop smart it doesn’t have to be that way!  Follow some of these simple tips from the experts on how to save big bucks on groceries and other necessities.

Coupons:  

• With savings on the rage, so are sites dedicated to “couponing”.  Pioneer of couponing, Coupon Cravings is dedicated to help shoppers save money in every facet of your life, including groceries.  The site features regularly updated coupons. 
• Can’t ever find coupons for your favorite products in the Sunday newspaper?  Contact the maker directly, suggests Joyce House in a recent interview on NPR. All products have the contact info on it, so call the company and suggest they make coupons for products you like.  Often they will either mail you coupons or refer you to how to get them.
• Most major stores post their complete coupon policy on their website.  This is valuable information that can help you get the best deals. Bankrate.com found that Kroger, Giant, Safeway and Acme sometimes double or triple coupon face values for certain days and times. In that case $20.00 worth of coupons could be worth $40.00.
• You can go paperless with your coupons, as well.  In 4 Ways to Use Coupons Efficiently, Reader’s Digest recommends online services that link manufacturer coupons to your loyalty card.  “Add the coupons to your online account, and simply present your card at checkout.”

Buy These Things:

• Bankrate.com spoke with store managers to get their secrets to savings in 10 Grocery Savings Tips from Store Managers.  These insiders revealed that savings on produce can often be found in bulk packaged fruits or veggies, such as potatoes, apples, or grapefruit. Since packaged fruit is priced per unit, the unit must weigh what it advertises by law. In order to avoid angry customers, grocers throw in extra to make sure it meets the standard.
• Try “chubs” for a great deal in the meat aisle.  Buy a whole cooked ham, turkey breast, or roast beef, and have the grocery store’s deli section slice it. You can save more than 50% over grand name deli meats, but be sure to check with them to see if they’re able to do it for you first!

The bottom line on reducing your bottom line at the cash register?  Don’t ever pay full price, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different shopping strategies to find what works best for you!

About the Authors

Philip Giroux is the president of Toddco Landscape Co., Inc., a design-build landscape firm, located in Venice, California, which he founded in 1978. The firm has received numerous awards for outstanding designs. Philip has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Arizona.

He is the author of “Landscape for Dummies” by IDG. He writes, lectures, and does radio and T.V. interviews on the subject of landscape. He served as past President for the L.A. Chapter of the California Contractors Association, and is a member of the Southern California Horticultural Society.

Sally Lamb is a professional artist. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southern California. She has exhibited her award winning oil and watercolor paintings throughout the U.S. and is extensively represented in both private and corporate collections.

Currently her paintings are shown at Bergamot Station in her hometown of Santa Monica, California. Her work includes large wall murals, book illustrations, demonstrations, lectures, and educational film.

The authors both faced the loss of their parents during the same time period. These two childhood friends then got together to write this book to answer and eliminate the second guessing, confusion and anxiety that they had experienced.

My Take on the Book
This was a great book that I wish I had in the past because it is so easy to use and implement. There is so much within the pages of this book and I have to say that as long as you follow the step-by-step instructions within the book, you will have a resource that you can place in a safe place for when you really need it! The book was well laid out and is definitely a book that anyone should have. I only had one copy, but I think I am planning on getting a second copy for my wife to fill out as well. I also am interested in telling other family members about this because of the simplicity and ease in implementing this.
