Book Review - Make Noise: A Creator's Guide to Podcasting and Great Audio Storytelling

Make Noise: A Creator's Guide to Podcasting and Great Audio Storytelling

About the Book

“An interestingly idiosyncratic and personal vision of how to make podcasts.”—Ira Glass

Veteran podcast creator and strategist Eric Nuzum distills a career’s worth of wisdom, advice, practical information, and big-picture thinking to help podcasters “make noise”—to stand out in this fastest of fastest-growing media universes.

Nuzum identifies core principles, including what he considers the key to successful audio storytelling: learning to think the way your audience listens. He delivers essential how-tos, from conducting an effective interview to marketing your podcast, developing your audience, and managing a creative team. He also taps into his deep network to offer advice from audio stars like Ira Glass, Terry Gross, and Anna Sale.

The book’s insights and guidance will help readers successfully express themselves as effective audio storytellers, whether for business or pleasure, or a mixture of both.

My Take on the Book
As someone that has been podcasting for some time I did not know what to expect in this book but I was very pleasantly surprised at all of the practical wisdom throughout the book.

The book is a perfect read for anyone at any stage of podcasting. Whether you are just thinking of starting a podcast or you have been podcasting for years.

The author has done a great job sharing his experiences and insights throughout the entire book. The book has so many stories that draw you further and further into the book and the concepts being shared. There were so many great sections within the book including things like creating a ten word description of the show to really knowing your audience and the characters of the show too.

This is a book I highly recommend to all that have any interest in Podcasting. You will learn much for this and it will help you be the type of podcaster you will want to be!

Book Review - The Business of Podcasting: How to Take Your Podcasting Passion from the Personal to the Professional

The Business of Podcasting: How to Take Your Podcasting Passion from the Personal to the Professional

About the Book
This book is by two of the pioneers in podcasting: Donna Papacosta of Trafalgar Communications, host of the popular "Trafcom News Podcast" and an internationally known trainer and seminar leader; and Steve "@PodcastSteve" Lubetkin, founder of Professional Podcasts, one of the first podcast production companies and a division of The Lubetkin Media Companies LLC, an award-winning producer of business and organizational podcasts, with more than three quarters of a million downloads.

Unlike other podcasting books that delve into the mechanics of creating a podcast, The Business of Podcasting tells you about the business side of podcasting: how to position clients' expertise through podcasting, the best business models, how to find clients, contracts, legal reviews, and much more.

My Take on the Book
I have read a lot of books on podcasting lately. With two podcasts that I run, dadspotlight.com and one other that is on Law School Success, I am always looking for new books that can help me with my craft and running the business more successfully.

The nice things about this book is that it opens your eyes to many practical tips that you can easily implement today that can transform your business and our podcast.

The authors bring a ton of experience to what they write and what you get in this book is a wide-array of resources, hints and tips that really allow you to see more and more ways in which you can creat a life and a lifestyle around your interest in podcasting.

So as you can see, this book is not all about the nuts and bolts about starting a podcast, though you get some of this, but instead it goes deeper and allows you to explore new areas that will let you consider ways in which you can monetize and move your podcast to a new level.

This is a great read!
