Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel Available Now!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Alvin and the Chipmunks. All opinions are 100% mine.

"Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" is available on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital Download NOW!!

On the website http://www.munkyourself.com you get the opportunity to be transformed into a chipmunk! Choose your hair, body type and background. You can use pre-recorder audio or text to speech and then listen to yourself talking as a chipmunk. It´s really fun!

Diva-J played with this and she came up with a few fun and crazy chipmunks, some with Afros and purple hair. She thought it was so cool that she could make something herself and even record her voice and truly make herself into a chipmunk. She kept wanting to go back for more. Her sister was a bit jealous that she wasn't old enough to do it herself.

When we watched the DVD, the girls were enthralled...and they loved both the chipmunks and the chipettes! They also loved the fact that this DVD was packed with so much stuff. Being a double DVD, it had a ton of extras that the girls enjoyed exploring! My kids loved the first Alvin and the Chipmunks and they loved this one as well and I know that your kids will as well.I have not yet purchased this for myself, but Diva-J has already told me that this is on her birthday list and I know that it would be one of those movies she would want to watch over and over.

For me, Alvin and the Chipmunks remind me of growing up watching watching the old cartoon and also listening to a few Alvin and the Chipmunk LP Albums, especially around Christmas, wondering if Alvin would ever get his Hula Hoop.

I truly encourage you this family friendly film and add it to their home collection!

If you want to have some more fun along the way with your family make sure to visit http://www.foxfamilyflicks.com for More Munk Mayhem

If this DVD sounds like one that you would like for your own collection you can buy it now

Designed to hang on the refrigerator or a wall close to the phone, the Baby Everywhere Information Station helps parents, grandparents and babysitters face any situation that comes up with greater confidence.

    PTPA Seal-of-Approval
  • A white frame that hangs on the refrigerator or a wall that holds a 50-page book and babysitter card.
  • A write-and-wipe surface on the book’s cover, to write reminders, to leave instructions for a babysitter, a parent's phone numbers and where to reach a trusted neighbor to call in an emergency.
  • A dry-ink pen to write on write-on-wipe surface.
  • Recommended by the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
  • Voted by iParentingMediaAward.com one of the most outstanding safety products of the year.
  • Instant access to information for parents, grandparents and babysitters.
My Take on the Product

Being a new parent you tend to become a bit frantic at the smallest issue that arises with your child (which is to be expected). At baby showers and for yourself, you tend to purchase and read every type of book, pamphlet etc. so that you can become the most "in the know" parent possible.

The problem with this is that when situations arise, you at times find yourself running around trying to put the "correct" information in your fingertips as quickly as possible.

This product pulls most of the important tips that you can find across many of the parenting books/magazines that you typically will find and puts them all in an easy to find reference that will help you as a parent as well as any babysitter.

The organizer is something you can place in a high traffic location for east access. I liked the dry erase board included so that you could easily change things if needed.

One thing that I wished that the product did have was magnets on the back to provide the option of connecting it to the fridge, but as of this point in time this is not one of the options available. Instead the organizer comes with a sticky substance on the back that is made to adhere to the surface for which you with to have your information station.

Overall, I was very impressed with this product and it would be a great gift for any parent to be.

Giveaway
How would you like to win a copy of this book? I will be giving away a Baby Everywhere Information Station to a lucky reader! All you need to do is let me know why you would have an interest in this book to be considered. The contest will run for one week and will end on April 14, 2010.

Yellowtail - A Wine That Everyone Can Enjoy!

    About Yellowtail
Recognizing the potential of the region, Filippo purchased a farm in the town of Yenda, New South Wales, in 1965. When Filippo and his wife Maria immigrated to Australia, they brought hopes, dreams and grape-growing and wine making know-how acquired through three generations of Italian heritage.

Even in the early years, Casella family wine was much more than something you drank with dinner - it was something you shared with family and friends. Filippo was passionate about his wine and enjoyed sharing it. He knew how much hard work, cooperation and skill went into making a great wine and he instilled this knowledge into each of his children. It's an approach the Casella family stay true to today.

In the beginning, the Casella family sold grapes from their farm to local wineries but in 1969 Filippo decided it was time for a new generation to put their wine making skills to use, and the winery was born.

Casella is still very much a family business, with the second and third generations all involved in this extraordinary success story. From humble beginnings, the Casella family has become Australia's greatest wine exporter.

The day-to-day operations of the winery are run by the three Casella sons - John, Managing Director and Winemaker; Joe, Australian Sales Director; and Marcello, Director and Vineyard Operations Director.

Casella Wines shot to the forefront of the export arena in mid 2000 with its hugely successful [yellow tail] brand. [yellow tail] was created with a simple philosophy in mind - to make a great wine that everybody can enjoy. The Casella family believe [yellow tail] is everything a great wine should be - fresh, approachable and flavorsome, with a personality all of its own!

In the initial stages, Casella Wines concentrated predominantly on the export market, and is now a key player in Europe, Asia, the UK, the US and Canada. In September 2003, Casella launched into the Australian market with [yellow tail], which has been a remarkable success on home turf.

    A Word from John Casella

The son of Sicilian immigrants, John Casella is one of the most private and self-effacing men in the modern wine business. He's also one of the most highly respected - he's admired for his integrity, honesty and family values.

Much has been written about John, but interviews are rarely on his agenda. One of [yellow tail]'s friends from London, Lulie Halstead, journeyed to the plains of Yenda to discover what [yellow tail]'s founder makes of his success. Here are a few comments from the man himself...

LH: Did you always think you'd end up working in the wine industry?
JC: What happened was I'd started off doing an arts degree at Wollongong University and decided that it wasn't going to go anywhere, and took a year off. Then came wine making. There were courses available in Wagga, which is only 170 kilometers from here, and it wasn't too difficult to get in. So I thought I'd try wine making, given that we had a small winery. That was the start.
LH: So it wasn't a passion that you'd grown up with, thinking ‘that's my destiny'?
JC: No, but then I'd always worked in the summer anyway and helped my father make wine, and my father would leave for Queensland and I'd be left with my mum to clean up all the wines, filter them and prepare them, and fill the drums for him. It really was just a logical step and, I think, it just took that year off to decide that it was probably the best career for me.
LH: When did it become apparent to you that this was something you really wanted to do?
JC: Well, once I'd finished college there was a job going at one of the local wineries. I'd worked here at our own winery for a few months and thought, oh well, it's better that I get a paid job rather than working here, and that was the start of it. So I did two years as an assistant winemaker sort of lad, and took over the winemaking. I worked there for 12 years all up - 10 years as a general manager and winemaker. And that was really the grounding and experience that I needed to bring back to Casella.
LH: What prompted the decision to come back to the family fold?
JC: It was probably a combination of a lot of things. One of them was that I could see I was doing most of the work! I did the buying, I did the selling and I looked after the winemaking, and everything else. This was all for somebody else and I thought, well, it can't be that difficult to do it for ourselves.
The idea of having our own winery was more about working for ourselves - my parents, brothers and I - rather than working for somebody else. Our father, at that stage, had had his [heart] bypass, and he wasn't working very much anyway. We thought we'd expand with a few tanks and make a few dollars, and we wouldn't need to work for anybody else.
LH: So the motivation was really to be in control, to be your own boss?
JC: Self managing, yes, but never really believing that we could grow to the size we would - and I wouldn't have been the only one that would've said that, because the wine industry is very capital-intensive. My father had small land holdings ... to think that we could have built a working capital, and the general capital that you need, is just one of those things that you'd never believe possible. If I'd have said ‘I'm nobody today, but in 15 years time I'll be part of the biggest family wine company in Australia', the industry would have laughed.
LH: Would you have laughed at yourself if you'd had that thought?
JC: Yes - I would have thought that's crazy, because of the amount of capital that you need and how intensive the competition was, and it really hasn't changed. It's an industry that has always been very competitive and a lot of the family companies have gone through a very slow growth. We see that with Brown Brothers and Yalumba, and a lot of family companies out there that have taken literally 100 years to get to where they've got to. And they had this new winery that was started in 1965 come out of nowhere and leave them behind.

    My Take on the Wine
I was able to try the Yellowtail Riesling and I have to say it was quite good. It was not as sweet as other Rieslings that I have had in the past, but still good. The wine had some flavor of both lemon and orange and was light and fresh like a Riesling should be. The wine did leave a slight aftertaste that was nice overall and not unpleasant.

Overall, I would recommend the Riesling and other Yellowtail Wines. I have had quite a few and for the price you are getting a high quality wine that will deinitely be the life to a nice dinner or an evening with friends.

Check out all their great wines today!

    History of The Ocarina
The ocarina is an ancient instrument. The first known ocarina-like instrument appear about 12000 years ago. The ocarina’s origins can be traced back to many different cultures. In South and Central America, the Mayans, Aztecs, and Incas all developed and performed on clay ocarinas which were often shaped like birds or animals. Ocarinas shaped like birds and animals could also be found in India as early as 5000 BC. China had its own form of ocarina called a Xun which was more rounded and egg-like in shape.

    Early History - 16th - 19th Centuries
The ocarina eventually made its way to Europe. In 1527, Cortes sent a group of Aztec dancers and musicians back to Emperor Charles V to perform at the royal court. The performance was well received and the Aztecs were sent to perform at various exhibitions throughout Europe. According to legend, a baker in Rome saw such a performance and was so impressed with the ocarina that he decided to make his own. (Bakers at that time often would make small pottery objects in their ovens to use up the leftover ashes.) It was nicknamed “ocarina” meaning “little goose.” It soon became a novelty item, but with its limited number of notes, it was little more than a toy. This all changed in the late 19th century when Guiseppe Donati, a young baker and musician, invented the submarine/sweet potato shaped ocarina which included accurate pitch and an extended range of notes. The ocarina could now be used for western art music. Various sizes were made which enabled ocarina players to form ensembles. One such ocarina ensemble is the famed Gruppo Ocarinistico Budriese which is still actively performing today.

    20th Century
During the first and second World Wars, servicemen often were provided with a pocket-sized ocarina to boost moral. As a result, the ocarina gained popularity in America as well as in Europe. However, due to rising interest in the recorder, the ocarina soon became unknown to the general public. With the release of the popular video game “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” in the 1990s, the ocarina has reached a new level of popularity in America and Europe. The ocarina has also gained recognition in Asia, particularly in Japan, thanks to the efforts of ocarina master Sojiro. He has released several recordings and continues to perform internationally.

What does an Ocarina Sound Like

    My Take On The Ocarina

Growing up, I was very musical in nature, I played Trumpet as well as was a vocal singer, so I read music and know how to play musical instruments. Ocarina gave me the opportunity with this review to try out two (a 6 hole & 12 hole Ocarina) of their Ocarina's along with the Beginners Guide to the Ocarina and the Beginners Guide to the Ocarina For Kids.

I found each of the ocarinas to be very different from one another in terms of how they sounded and how you played them. The hardest part that I found in playing one of these ocarinas was learning the different note finger positions and being able to move my fingers in the right places at the right time. The guides though help the beginner to take a step-by-step approach to learning the finger positions to make you start sounding like a pro in no time. I decided to give these ocarina's (the 6 hole at first) to Diva-J to start working with her on learning the instrument. If you know Diva-J, you know she is not the most patient, so I expected her to simply start blowing all over the place and not take direction. Surprisingly, I was impressed to see that she did do that at first, but then I sat down and talked to her and slowly she took to the direction step-by-step. So I am hopeful that through the summer we can work on this and practice and see what happens, maybe she will become as good as the woman you year above someday.

Overall, I would say that if you are looking for a unique musical instrument or if you want your children to experience and appreciate an instrument that has been around for a very long time, take a look at purchasing an Ocarina for yourself.

If you are looking to purchase an Ocarina, you can find a myriad of different types of ocarinas at: http://stlocarina.com/

Finally, All of their returned eyeglasses are not restocked as they are with most optical stores. Their's are “recycled”! What does that mean? Well, they believe that everyone should have access to vision care. So, they donate all of their returned eyeglasses to various organizations around the US who then sanitize and redistribute the eyeglasses with the correct prescription to people all over the world who can’t afford vision care!

    About the Glasses
I took advantage of trying out the Troy Gunmetal Flexible glasses. I picked this frame because it was similar to another pair of eyeglasses that I have and J-Mom liked the way that they looked on me. The process of searching the site was simple and I liked the way that you could limit the search based on specific criteria such as your gender, material, lens type and price. I did not have to do much in the sense of searching much past this.

The prices for their prescription glasses were reasonable in comparison to other local vendors that I have visited. I ended up getting single vision lenses and found and did notice that the price went up quite a bit if you needed to get something different or if you wanted polarized or transition lenses. I guess though this is to be somewhat expected with the fact that there is more effort in preparing the glasses themselves.

I have to say that in receiving the glasses they were great and it only took about a week or so to receive the finished glasses which usually is quicker than most eyeglass locations. The eyeglasses were well packaged and came in a sturdy case with polishing cloth (which was nice). The glasses and frames were sturdy and of nice quality.

I was a little disappointed to find that the glasses I found online were a bit more rectangular that I had first imagined, so they did not look the best on my face, but alas, that was my mistake.

Overall, the entire experience was very positive and I would recommend others to check out the company for themselves and see what kind of glasses you can find for yourself!

If you are interested in finding some glasses for yourself, all of my readers are being offered a discount. The code is: Mommy5 and it’s good for 5% off your final order! The code never expires.

With the teen pregnancy rate at 37.3% and the increase in sexuality in the media THIS MESSAGE IS VITAL—for teens, their parents and our community at large. • How your body works—top to bottom, we cover it all
    • Feeling good, feeling fat, and everything in between

    My Take on the Book
As a father of girls, I dread the day that I have to talk about some of these issues with my own girls and in talking with J-Mom this book is a great guide for moms and daughters in talking about important and many times difficult topics.

The book is very easy to read and I have to say that the way that the book itself was set up (with conversation starters) was great!. Especially in the topics that relate to sensitive topics of health and sex, I found the ideas presented to be straight forward and easy to understand. They also opened a door to dialogue that bring moms and daughters to being on the same level and encourages them to keep talking no matter what.

I definitely plan to hold onto this book for years to come as I know that it will be one that will aid us tremendously as Diva-J and Diva-PJ get older and want to know and understand more.

If this book sounds like one you would like in your own library you can find it on Amazon!

    8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back Review & Giveaway

    About the Book
Americans are ten times more likely to have back pain than people from traditional societies around the world. In Chad, the incidence of back pain is only five percent, while in the United States, 85 percent of the population will suffer from back pain in its lifetime. Doctors and experts from industrialized societies blame everything from our sedentary lives, age and stress, to bodies that are not evolved to stand upright. After a lifetime of research in anatomy and alternative medicine, as well as anthropological study in parts of the world where back pain is rare, pain specialist and author Esther Gokhale (Pron: Go-Clay) has found that the answer is much more basic.
In 8 STEPS TO A PAIN-FREE BACK (Pendo Press; April 2008; $24.95), Gokhale uses historical and scientific facts to show that most of what our culture has taught us about posture, including what most doctors recommend, is misguided and could be damaging.
In many cultures, people still have knowledge of natural posture and movement that prevents pain and enhances health. Both manual laborers and sedentary workers from remote Burkina Faso, villages in Brazil, and rural Portugal have not forgotten how to sit, stand, walk and sleep in harmony with their bodies’ design. As a result, they do not suffer from back pain. Inspired by their techniques, Gokhale has created a method of posture re-education that has guided thousands of her clients away from back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and other musculoskeletal ailments. Through her richly illustrated, step-by-step guide, she makes her method available to a wider audience.

IN 8 STEPS TO A PAIN-FREE BACK READERS CAN:
    • Learn how to keep the back pain-free without time-consuming exercises, changes in working style and daily routine, equipment, medication or surgery.

    • Transform everyday activities, such as sitting, standing, walking and bending into comfortable movements that can also protect bones and joints, and maximize the ability of muscles, arteries, veins and nerves to keep the body healthy and pain-free.

    • Discover the power of stretchsitting and stretchlying, two revolutionary techniques that will decompress the spine, improve circulation and breathing, relax muscles and reduce stress while working at the computer, watching TV and sleeping through the night.

    • Forget what you thought you knew about good posture. Never tense your muscles to “sit up straight” again. Return to the natural, healthy posture used by athletes and shared by children and people from traditional societies the world over.

    My Take on the Book
I have had lower back problems in the past and have tried numerous back exercises and seen numerous doctors over the years to see what I can do to help this problem that I have to deal with. So when I was asked to look at this book, I was excited to see if it might assist my back in feeling better longer than other methods I have tried in the past.

Some of the things I like about this book is that:

    1. Gokhale provides many visual examples of what you should be doing to help your back to feel better.
    2. Gokhale's method is simple, and is easily internalized.
    3. Anyone can follow this method and make a substantive change to their life!

I also was impressed with how inexpensive the book was for what you get for the price. As I mentioned, the book has wonderful photos and illustrations that do a great job at allowing the reader to see what they need to to isually understand what they need to do to help their back. I also enjoyed the numerous excercises that were in the book as they were simple to follow and did not take long to complete.

If you are dealing with back pain in any sense, I highly recommend this book!

If this book sounds like something that you would like to have as a part of your own library you can find it on Amazon!
