Book Review - Judy Moody: Sunny-Side Up

Judy Moody: Sunny-Side Up

About the Book
Sometimes you just have to find the good news, as Judy Moody discovers in Judy Moody: Sunny-Side Up, when she creates her very own newspaper—featured as a bonus at the end of the book.

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow! Mr. Todd has Class 3T looking for the Five Ws in the newspaper, but all Judy can see is how much bad news there is. Climate change! Deadly virus! Sea turtles endangered by straws stuck in their noses! The good news is that Judy is taking all the bad news as a call to action. She gets out her notebook, clicks her six-year pen, transforms into a Kid Reporter, and goes out in search of happier stories. Rare bird sighting in Virginia Beach! Escaped bearded dragon found! Plastic straws banned at Virginia Dare School! There’s even a scoop that Judy overhears while ordering a scoop at Screamin’ Mimi’s—about someone who found real buried treasure. Kids intrigued by the first edition of Judy’s Sunny-Side-Up News—offering stories, a word search, a comic, a recipe, and more—may just be inspired to create their own second edition. After all, there’s no telling how much good news is out there until you start looking . . . and acting!

My Take on the Book
This is another great book in the Judy Moody series. The book was a quick read that lets the reader follow along on Judy's new venture in starting her own paper. The book was fun Judy is able to find some exciting stories that make the plot move even faster! Whether you have been a Judy Moody fan for years or you are just starting, you will love reading and sharing this with your kids!

Book Review - The Long Way Around

The Long Way Around

About the Book
In The Long Way Around you get an exciting wilderness adventure, three cousins are cut off from their parents by a huge earthquake—and must hike long and treacherous mountain trails back to safety, with only each other to rely on.

During a hiking trip with their parents in the mountains of California, cousins Owen, Vivian, and Amy are finally allowed to camp for one night at a little lake all on their own. But when a massive earthquake blocks their return path, there’s only one way home: the long way around, through a wilderness filled with fierce animals, raging rivers, unstable weather, and high passes. The hardest challenges the cousins face, however, are the troubles they’ve brought with them: bold Vivian’s fear of starting middle school and of changes she can’t control, Owen’s lingering emotional scars from a car accident, and Amy’s desire to live in stories rather than in boring regular life. Drawing on courage and humor, the cousins weather storms, make the most of dwindling rations, and face their deepest fears in order to bring each other safely home. This gripping contemporary novel from celebrated author Anne Nesbet is bursting with excitement, rich natural settings, and characters who will have readers rooting for them all the way.

My Take on the Book

This delightful adventure tale masterfully balances excitement and light-heartedness. Three young cousins find themselves alone in the mountains, facing the challenge of survival with minimal resources. Despite the serious premise, the story is filled with humor and warmth, making it both engaging and uplifting. The writing is vibrant, bringing the setting to life with vivid descriptions of the natural world, while the fast-paced plot keeps readers hooked from beginning to end.

For those who enjoy stories of adventure and resilience, this book offers an inspiring and refreshing take on the genre. It’s not just about survival but also about personal growth, friendship, and finding joy even in difficult circumstances. Perfect for fans of outdoor adventures, it’s a heartwarming and satisfying read.
