My Take on the Product
This was an amazing piece of technology. As someone who has fallen off the wagon of fitness a few times over the years it is so nice to have something that you cann count on to give you direct feedback on how you actually are doing, not only in your day-to-day fitness but also in your sleep as well. Both of these things are so important for your overall health, thus it is SO important to make sure that you are doing everything that you can to stay physically and mentally fit and this helps with that.

I have not been using this for a few days and the information that it has given me thus far has been so complete. I am so much more knowledgeable than I was before and all this because I wore this band around my wrist. All-in-all I have been very impressed thus far. I have to say that if you have someone that you love this Valentines Day, give them the gift of peace of mind as that is what this provides the user.

Mike & Ike Candy Just In Time For Valentine's Day!

It's time to get in the sprit of Valentines Day with some great candy! (I mean what goes better than candy around Valentines Dat right?). Mike & Ike has brought forth some great packaging as well as flavors to give to your sweety on this special day!

Not only are they offering flavors like Passion Mix and HOT TAMALES® Hottie you get into the mood for the day, but I also found a few recipes that use just these same candies to make some very cool cookies as well:

BeJeweled MIKE AND IKE® Cookies
BeJeweled Mike & Ike Sugar Cookies
Prep Time: 15 min
Cook Time: 10 min
Ready Time: 25 min
Servings: 36

INGREDIENTS:

• 1 ½ Boxes of MIKE AND IKE® Passion Mix
• 2/3 Cup margarine – cold
• 1 Cup Sugar
• 1 Egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 Cups flour
• 1 teaspoon Baking Soda

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. In a mixer bowl, put 2/3 C Margarine, 1 C Sugar, 1 Egg and 1 teaspoon Vanilla.
3. Mix until well creamed.
4. Add in 2 C flour and 1 teaspoon Baking Soda.
5. Add in chopped up MIKE AND IKE® Passion Mix, mix into a dough (will be slightly sticky).
6. Roll into 1 inch balls. Place on cookie sheets lined with baking paper.
7. Bake for about 10 minutes or until edges are golden. Centers will be slightly soft.
8. Let cool.

HOT TAMALES® Snickerdoodles
Servings: 2 dozen

INGREDIENTS:

• 1/2 cup (4 oz) HOT TAMALES® Candies, coarsely chopped*
• 1/4 cup (2 oz) salted margarine, softened
• 1/4 cup (2 oz) shortening (I use Spectrum Organic)
• 3/4 cups (5.6 oz) granulated sugar
• 1 egg
• 1 1/2 cups (6.75 oz) all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• pinch of salt (increase to 1/4 tsp if using unsalted margarine)
• 4 teaspoons granulated sugar
• 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

*The candy is quite sticky so the best way to chop it is with a lightly oiled knife.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Line two cookie sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
2. Using an electric mixer, cream together the margarine, shortening and ¾ cups sugar. Add the egg and beat until thoroughly combined.
3. In a separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients (except the candy) into the creamed mixture and mix until just combined. Add the chopped candy and mix until the candy is evenly distributed, a few minutes more.
4. Refrigerate the dough for at least 15 minutes (this makes it easier to handle).
5. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
6. Combine the remaining sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Form dough into balls the size of small walnuts (I use a tablespoon cookie scoop). Roll the balls of cookie dough in the cinnamon sugar.
7. Place the cookies two inches apart on the cookie sheets. Bake for 8 minutes, rotating the cookie sheets in the oven at the halfway point. They are done when they look puffed in the middle and slightly brown at the edges (the tops of the cookies will form cracks). Be careful not to overcook.
8. Remove cookie sheet from the oven and let cookies sit on it for another minute or so before removing to cooling rack; cookies will flatten out as they cool.
9. These cookies are best served warm, straight out of the oven, but they can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days.

Valentine's Day Primate Adoption Program for Kids

Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary resident Khy, a four year old snow monkey, wants to know, "Will you be my 'prime mate' for Valentine's Day?" Born Free USA, a leader in animal welfare and wildlife conservation has announced a new primate "adoption" program designed specifically for kids this Valentine’s Day.

The adopt-a-primate program, which helps support the more than 600 residents at the 186 acre Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary located in Dilley, Texas, is usually $52 a year, but starting today through February 28, Born Free USA is offering a special Valentine’s day gift package for children for $39.95. This offer also includes a photograph of Khy, a certificate of adoption, a newsletter, a stuffed animal primate from Born Free USA's Plush Animal Collection (valued at $18), and a Valentine's Day pack of cards that kids can use to send to their own Valentine.

According to Adam Roberts, Executive Vice President of Born Free USA, “Our adopt-a-primate program has always been a success because people can get to know more about a specific resident at our sanctuary while their donation directly goes to the care and rehabilitation of that individual and others at the Sanctuary. We want to place a larger emphasis now on teaching children about these beautiful animals, and tell their story and spread the message about keeping wildlife in the wild. We chose Valentine’s Day as a way to make the program more affordable, fun, and accessible.”

By participating in this program and adopting Khy for Valentine’s Day, the public will be helping Born Free USA provide food, care and rehabilitation for him and the more than 600 other monkeys who live at the sanctuary, while educating a child about the lifestyle and needs of primates.

About Khy: A rambunctious four year old male snow monkey, Khy arrived at the sanctuary in August 2009, after being kept as someone’s "pet.” Though he was in the hands of a doting human, he began to display the unpredictable behavior of the wild animal he is. He was growing up fast and no longer was the adorable little infant who so desperately needed nurturing after being stolen from his real animal mother. This is unfortunately the story for many of the hundreds of residents at the Sanctuary.

When Khy arrived at Born Free USA, he was a handful of high energy and exuberance, and had a low tolerance for anything resembling constraint – reminding him of his time as a pet. The Sanctuary staff love when monkeys insist on being monkeys and display their natural behavior as it should be, and did everything possible to help him acclimate, make primate friends, and bolster his confidence. One of the fortunate former "pets," Khy is now able to spend his life in beautiful exploration of the natural world around him at the Sanctuary.

The Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary offers macaques, vervets, and baboons rescued from abuse and exploitation a second chance at a more natural life. After being denied the freedom they deserved, these individuals have been given a new start at the Sanctuary, where they can live out their remaining days.

My Take on the Jewelry
If you are a Dad of Divas, you know how Jewelry is a commodity within your home, and this jewelry is just stunning and made my daughter's jaw drop when I gave it to her. The beads are set for smaller hands (larger), but this being said, my 5 year old though that they were very cool, and a necklace that they could wear anywhere that they wanted to go (She likes to accessorize). There are now apps for your phone that utilize GPS to help parents ensure that their kids are OK. These apps provide simple ways for children to check-in with their parents with one simple tap on their smartphone. Here are some ways that you can use mobile technology this Valentine’s Day to ensure you and you partner can enjoy a romantic evening:

• Worried? Check the map. In an instant, you can pull up the location of your kids and see the threats and safety resources nearby.

Five Healthier Alternatives To Valentine’s Day Food Favorites

1. Instead of: A box of chocolates
Try: An edible fruit arrangement

Here’s why: Still a thoughtful gift for your loved one, most fruits are low in calories per gram because they have high water and fiber content. Chocolate is empty nutrition, a high energy density food, meaning the calories are more densely packed into the sweet than a piece of fruit.

2. Instead of: Chocolate covered strawberries
Try: Strawberries with light whipped cream

Here’s why: When you're eating whipped cream, most of what you are eating is air. One or two tablespoons of light whipped cream typically has less than 30 calories and little to no fat. A little dollop on strawberries is a delicious alternative to dipping them in high-calorie, high-fat chocolate.

3. Instead of: Eating out at a restaurant
Try: Cooking dinner at home
Here’s why: At home you can control your portion sizes and what goes into your meals. At a restaurant, most people have more difficulty avoiding high-caloric food and giant sized portions.

4. Instead of: A cocktail
Try: Red wine

Here’s why: Although alcohol itself doesn't contain fat, it is loaded with calories. And when you add in mixers, juice, sugar, and other ingredients, the calories can really add up. A glass of red wine, in moderation, is lower in calories and has been shown to increase levels of "good" cholesterol and protect against artery damage.

5. Instead of: cookies or cupcakes for the little valentine in your life
Try: a lower energy version of their favorite treat or simply reduce portion size by ten percent

Here’s why: Putting your little one on the road to healthy eating can never start too early. Indulging them in a sweet every now and then is ok, but consider substituting in healthier ingredients. Instead of oil, substitute for applesauce, instead of whole eggs, consider using egg beaters. Their treat will still be just as delicious but a little healthier and that is the best gift you can give them this Valentine’s Day!

Bottom line, follow these four simple rules: eat less, choose well, be active and restructure your relationship. You will enjoy Valentines Day without adding unwanted pounds!

My Take on the Toy
This was such a fun toy. With my girls being huge Justin Bieber fans, this was great. Of course as parents the song that the Beaver sings can get a bit much, but it provided the girls with a ton of smiles and laughs. With great music quality as well as animation action, the makers of this toy did a great job at syncing the toy to the music. My Take on the Chocolate
This was great chocolate, rich, decadent and so delicious. I was able to try a few different of their varieties and can easily say that if these are any indications of their other chocolate then anyone who likes chocolate should definitely check these out! My Take on the Vodka
I was quite impressed with this Vodka. It was not only smooth, but in trying out a number of these above drinks. The drink recipes are definitely ones that anyone who loves Vodka should try.
