Don't forget to look at the other books in the series so that you can be an armchair world traveler.

My Take on the Book
Another great book from Carole Roman that really makes you feel that you are being transported to the country in which she is exploring. This book was important for our family as my wife's family came from Poland. We have never been there, but this book allows you to truly learn about the culture, geography, and things that really make the country unique. I always appreciate that the author writes about things that kids would find important as my daughters always find these books to be fun reads! This is a great book for the whole family!

Book Review - Queen Dog

Queen Dog

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
Queen Dog has ruled her castle with grace and majesty since she was a pup. Her people adore her. They provide her with delicious meals and shower her with attention. Lately, though, they have been a bit distracted and service has started to slip. Queen Dog tries her best to make do--but then a stranger moves into the castle! Who is this tiny newcomer commanding all the attention? A servant, or a pretender to the throne?

With comic action and a regal twist, Queen Dog turns a royal pain into a perfect princess.

My Take on the Book
This was a very cute book that looked at the birth of a new baby and the changing dynamic within a home through the eyes of a dog that was queen of the castle before the new arrival. The artwork was very cute and the story was very creative. You will love seeing through the eyes of this regal puppy and it help talk with your own kids when a new sibling may be on the way too.

Book Review - The Pinkaboos: Bitterly and the Giant Problem

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
Facing fears has never been so much fun! Join best friends Bitterly, Abyssma and Belladonna as they start a new year at Fright School.

As young "Frights", they will learn how to chase away the fears of little human girls by entering their dreams and teaching them how to overcome their nightmares. But Bitterly, the most promising "Fright", must face the school bully and some nightmares of her own. Creators Laura and Jake Gosselin offer an empowering book series for girls and young readers that presents the challenges of childhood through the thrilling and magical world of The Pinkaboos.

My Take on the Book
The Pinkaboos are in school. Fright School is run by their teacher Miss Viper. She teaches them about magic and when to use it, how to tangle zombie's legs, and much more. The little frights must take quizzes on their lessons and only when they are totally ready will Miss Viper give them a little girl who has nightmares . At that point the little fright must enter the dream and help the child overcome their fear(s).

Bitterly has a little girl named Molly to help. Molly is afraid of giants and the dark. Bitterly learns that giants hate the dark too so Molly is able to use this knowledge to over come her fear.

Most children grow up with fears. How they are able to get rid of them often depends on the adults around them. I think these Pinkaboo stories are great avenues for adults and children to discuss nightmares and fears. The book may just open up that avenue for a good discussion.

As in the other Pinkaboo stories the authors have included short biographies of the main characters at the end of the book. There is also a recipe for "wormy cupcakes", the history of giants, and some advice on how to overcome fears.

Book Review - The Pinkaboos: Belladonna and the Nightmare Academy

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
Best friends Bitterly, Belladonna and Abyssma are back for more fun and bravery in this exciting second installment of the award-winning "Pinkaboos" book series.

This time, Belladonna must scare away ghosts haunting a little girl's dreams, while a new fright named Wither struggles at Fright School. Things get complicated when Vex, the school bully, gets involved. Belladonna and her fellow Pinkaboos have to be braver than ever when they uncover Vex's super secret plot.

My Take on the Book
This is a chapter book . The authors certainly have great imaginations in creating the characters who attend Fright School and the ones who attend the Nightmare Academy. The theme of the book is there are good creatures at Fright Academy who enter children's dreams and scare away their nightmares. They assist the children in getting over their fears. However the other faction at Nightmare Academy are the creatures who cause the nightmares and scare children.

Belladonna and her friends set out desperately trying to help Ava, a little girl , who is afraid of ghosts. She has reoccurring nightmares. The frightful Vex is causing the nightmares to occur.

The story details how Belladonna and her friends must have courage and work together to successfully help Ava and remove Vex and her nightmare cohorts.

At the end of the book the authors have added additional biographies of the main characters. There are a few art projects and a project to make a bat house too.

This is an imaginative and interesting chapter book for children.
