Book Review - The Percy Jackson Coloring Book

The Percy Jackson Coloring Book

About the Book
Demigods, brandish your pencils!

Over the past decade, millions of young readers, parents, and teachers have come to adore Rick Riordan's classic series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, which made ancient Greek mythology contemporary, relevant, and entertaining as it turned kids on to reading. Now fans can literally color Percy's world with the amusing portraits, dramatic scenes, and intricate designs on every spread of this large format paperback. This book is a great way to introduce young children to the series, to allow older fans to reminisce, and to augment classroom units on Greek mythology.

My Take on the Book
Rick Riordan is a storyteller. He has written a best selling series of books for middle age children. The books include stories about fantasy, Olympians, Greek and Roman mythology , as well as Egyptian mythology. There is drama , action, and some real and fantasy creatures.

Keith Robinson has taken the stories and illustrated this coloring book with pen and ink drawings that can be colored in by the reader/artist. There are monsters, demigods, and gods. There is a map of a fictional place, the actual characters from the stories, and buildings too.

If you enjoy coloring and fantasy, this may be a book you will enjoy coloring. Lots of small details to color and present your own detailed colorful expression.

Book Review - Color Quest: Cityscapes: 30 Extreme Challenges to Complete and Color

Color Quest: Cityscapes: 30 Extreme Challenges to Complete and Color

About the Book
Uncover dazzling cities that are hiding in plain sight!

Colorists, puzzle fans, and adventure seekers, take note: you will love this color-by-number book that is unlike anything you've ever seen before. Grab your colored pens or pencils and start coloring the numbered shapes and in no time at all, you'll free the images concealed on the page. Your odyssey will take you on a dazzling journey through numerous cities, uncovering artistic gems that are hiding in plain sight. You'll unearth stunning cities such as London and Morocco; iconic landmarks such as the Rialto Bridge in Venice and the Chrysler Building in New York; and hidden gems like the Hallgrímskirkja Cathedral in Reykjavík, Iceland. Once you've completed them, perforated pages allow you to pull them out making them perfect for decorating, framing, or giving as gifts. It's all just waiting to be liberated by you as you color each one, breathe new life into these pages, and uncover stunning and intricate works of art in your Color Quest.

My Take on the Book
This is the most detailed "color" book I have seen . The author has given the artist full page cityscapes from all over the world to color in. The backgrounds are white with the shapes of buildings or scenery. Some of the pages have squares, circles or hexagons to color in to make the picture. Each page has a color pallet, so areas with a #1 are a certain color. Some of the cityscapes are from Japan, Iceland, Italy, India, and France. The author takes the artist around the world. Some of the specific scenes are The Louvre, The Colosseum, Copenhagen seafront, and the Brandenburg Gate. To me this will take a lot of patience and careful concentrating to color each spot carefully with the specific color. The author indicates to the artist who to use color pencils or pens effectively. With patience you will create a gorgeous picture.

Book Review - Endangered: Animals to Color

Endangered: Animals to Color
 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
Endangered is a coloring book with a conscience and a cause. Barron’s is proud to donate a 2% royalty of all proceeds earned by this coloring book to the IFAW (The International Fund for Animal Welfare) to help them rescue, raise, and release endangered wildlife. A portion of the proceeds will also go towards preserving critical habitats and reducing human-wildlife conflicts.

Enter a world of spectacular animals that are under siege. This splendidly illustrated collection of endangered animal portraits comes from Craig Norton, an accomplished fine artist known for his drawing skills and his focus on social issues in his art. In Endangered, coloring book fans will find lots of incredible illustrations and riveting information about imperiled animals with dwindling populations. These are not the typical animals you see in animal-themed coloring books. Instead, you’ll find unique portraits to color featuring the Sumatran Elephant, Red Wolf, California Condor, Bluefin Tuna, Galápagos Penguin, Green Turtle, Snow Leopard, Sea Lion, Monarch Butterfly, Brown Bear, Narwhal, and many more. Each illustration is accompanied by vital facts about the animal, such as geographic location, habitat, population, and reasons for its decline. Every gorgeous design is printed on perforated paper, so it is easily pulled out and readily available for display once you’ve completed your coloring sessions. Informative, restorative, and beautiful, coloring fans and animal lovers alike will be moved as they color and learn about endangered animals.

My Take on the Book
If you love unique coloring books this is it. You will find some amazing animals that will allow you to create and save for yourself some of the endangered animals for yourself. My daughters loved to use this for herself and she found that after finishing these she would share the completed pages with friends and family members. One of the other very cool things was that for every book that is purchased you are supporting the International Fund for Animal Welfare!

About the Book
Here's a new and exciting addition to the best-selling Just Add Color series! Mindfulness, wellness, enhanced creativity, and stress-busting are just some of the benefits attributed to adult coloring books. It's no wonder that coloring has taken its place at the grown up's table as a legitimate form of artistic expression, right along with painting and drawing. Plus, it's just so much fun! In Exotic Birds, you'll find 120 pull-out, enthralling images of mandarin ducks in their natural habitats, a Bird of Paradise's wing decorated with fanciful designs, and more to color and complete. Just Add Color and you'll be so entranced, you'll run for your crayons or coloring pencils as often as you can. Includes a QR code link to relaxing ambient music.

My Take on the Book
What a lovely book to color. There are 120 illustrations to complete. The artist could use the URL code or scan the QR code into their tablet, laptop, or computer to listen to bird songs as they color.

Because of the intricate drawings included in this book, my suggestion is that adults or older children would enjoy using the pages. The drawings have many very fine narrow spaces in the details of the birds or background drawings. You will want to make sure your coloring utensils have sharpened points.

One of my favorite drawings was the one of the hummingbirds.

Have fun coloring!

In my opinion, this coloring book would be better used by an older child or adult There are many coloring pages with intricate lines.

Book Review - Fabulous Copycat Coloring: Pretty Pictures to Copy and Complete

Fabulous Copycat Coloring: Pretty Pictures to Copy and Complete

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
For the child who admires all things that are remarkable and pretty, this coloring book will provide hours of absorbing fun. Kids who love underwater marvels and gorgeous things in vibrant colors will find the images in this book hard to resist. This unusual book series puts a fun new twist on the traditional coloring book and inspires self-expression through imitation. Instead of page after page of black and white images to color, Copycat Coloring Books feature two versions of each image: one in the traditional coloring book format, and the other completely colored in. Kids can challenge themselves to copy the colored image exactly, or do their own thing to top it!

My Take on the Book
This coloring book has beautiful illustrations drawn and colorfully filled in on each set of two pages. So the reader will be able to observe the colors the authors used to color the illustrations and choose to copy those colors when coloring the exact illustration on the right side or decide to use their creativity and choose their own colors and designs.

There is a wide range of subject matter in this book. You could choose pages with flowers, butterflies and birds. You could also select pages which contain people dancing, fancy umbrellas, and even a windmill.

Most of the designs drawn have large spaces to color.

I would think children and adults would enjoy using this book. There are certainly many hours of enjoyment if you choose to use this book.
