Book Review - Shadow House: The Gathering

Shadow House: The Gathering

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
You don't just read this ghost story. You step into it. Some houses are more than just haunted... they're hungry.

Dash, Dylan, Poppy, Marcus, and Azumi don't know this at first. They each think they've been summoned to Shadow House for innocent reasons. But there's nothing innocent about Shadow House.

Something within its walls is wickedly wrong. Nothing -- and nobody -- can be trusted. Hallways move. Doors vanish. Ghosts appear. Children disappear.

And the way out?

That's disappeared, too...

Enter Shadow House... if you dare.

My Take on the Book
This was a great book that really brings you into the book and the house itself. If you love scary stories this is definitely one that you should definitely read. The author does a masterful job at creating an environment that is spooky but also one that really leaves you on the edge of your chair as you wonder what the shadow house will do next. Be ready for anything!

Book Review - Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier

Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
Catrina and her family are moving to the coast of Northern California because her little sister, Maya, is sick. Cat isn't happy about leaving her friends for Bahía de la Luna, but Maya has cystic fibrosis and will benefit from the cool, salty air that blows in from the sea. As the girls explore their new home, a neighbor lets them in on a secret: There are ghosts in Bahía de la Luna. Maya is determined to meet one, but Cat wants nothing to do with them. As the time of year when ghosts reunite with their loved ones approaches, Cat must figure out how to put aside her fears for her sister's sake -- and her own.

Raina Telgemeier has masterfully created a moving and insightful story about the power of family and friendship, and how it gives us the courage to do what we never thought possible.

My Take on the Book
Another great book by this great author. We were lucky enough to meet her in person about a year ago and she was so personable. We also have loved how in the past she brought her own experiences into her stories. My daughter was very excited to get this book as she had been waiting for it to come out. She read it in one sitting and at the end I asked her to share with me her thoughts and she shared that she really liked the storyline and she thought that it was a great addition to the stories that the author has available to kids like me. She also mentioned how much she loved the illustrations and that the characters were memorable and ones that she would love to see again in the future. We cannot wait for the next book that this author shares!

Book Review - Geronimo Stilton: Magical Mission

Geronimo Stilton: Magical Mission
 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
I was traveling to London, England on a secret mission! I had to investigate some strange occurrences -- someone was trying to get their paws on the crown jewels! Trap came along, too, to compete in a big magic show. And before I could solve my mystery, Trap needed my help... to perform an impossible magic trick. Could I do it all? Squeak!

My Take on the Book
This was a great book that incorporated a bit of magic, mystery, adventure and more. On top of it you get the great characters that you always get in a Geronimo Stilton book and great images throughout. The book was a ton of fun to read and was a very quick read too. My girls blew through the book and by the end they were asking for more which is always a good sign. This is a must read for any Geronimo Stilton fan!

Book Review - Geronimo Stilton Spacemice: Away in a Star Sled

Geronimo Stilton Spacemice: Away in a Star Sled

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book Each year in the cosmos, on the Night of Dancing Stars, the Elfix aliens distribute gifts to all the creatures of the galaxy. But this year, the holiday is fast approaching, and the spacemice discover that the Elfix have all disappeared! Can Geronimo Stiltonix and his crew find them before their special night?

My Take on the Book
Here is the newest Geronimo Stilton adventure book for a young reader grades 2 - 4. In this story Geronimo and his family/friends must help save the elfix who visit each year on their sled and bring gifts.

The nebulos captured the kind and sweet elfixes to force them to make gifts just for them. You see the nebulos are creatures that when they are not happy they turn gray and are mean. Because they did not receive gifts , they became very mean.

The story has its usual funny lines that are related to cheese. There is problem solving and quick thinking by many of the characters.

I found the themes to be appropriate for children. In the story the nebulos were not happy and so illustrated their displeasure by forcing the elfixes to make gifts. When Geronimo learned that the nebulos just needed someone to show them friendship and kindness, everything changed. They became helpful, happy, and were sorry to be such bullies. So being good and generous is better than being bad and envious.

Book Review - There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey!

There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey!
 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
The old lady is at it again, and this time she's swallowing a Turkey . . . she's always been quirky!

You won't believe why this old lady swallowed
a turkey, a ball, a hat, a balloon, a boat, some wheels, and
a horn of plenty!

Read this book and find out why!

My Take on the Book
Here is the latest adventure of the little old lady with the voracious appetite for strange items. Of course all this makes perfect sense to her as she swallows a turkey and ball , a balloon and boat, and the list goes on. The story is hilarious! The author used clever rhymes to tell the story. This will easily become another book your child will want you to read over and over again.

Jared Lee's illustrations show perfectly the emotions of the live characters and of course the often delightful expression on the old lady's face.

Enjoy the latest antics of this old lady!
