A visiting rodent has arrived in Old Mouse City with astounding news. On his recent journey to a cold, distant land, he spotted a mountain . . . moving! Holey cheese! Geronimo Stiltonoot is determined to travel to the ice and snow himself to find out what lies behind this mystery. It's a fur-raising expedition!

My Take on the Book
I have just recently started to read this series of books with my daughters and they are so much fun. You get taken back in time to live out some great adventures with Geronimo Stiltonoot. This character and the others around him are great and push the Geronimo series to a new level. I loved this and the other books in the series and you will too! The books stand on their own and this along with the others will put a smile on your face and keep you engaged from beginning to end!

Book Review - Geronimo Stilton Special Edition: The Journey Through Time

Geronimo Stilton Special Edition: The Journey Through Time
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Journey back in time with Geronimo in this fabumouse hardcover special edition!

I, Geronimo Stilton, never expected to set paw inside a time machine. But when Professor Paws von Volt invited me to travel with him, I had to accept!

My family came along to help us discover how the dinosaurs became extinct, how the Great Pyramid of Giza was built, and what life was like at King Arthur's court. Along the way I was chased by a Tyrannosaurus rex, almost eaten by a crocodile in the Nile, and asked to save a maiden from an evil knight's castle. Holey cheese! It was an adventure through history!

My Take on the Book
This was a great collection of books. What I loved was that you get three books here that will keep you laughing and on the edge of your seat for some time. I loved the adventure and the humor as always and any fan of Geronimo Stilton will love this, while at the same time will give you a great book to give as a gift for any young reader too! I highly recommend this to all!

CD Review - Kool & the Gang: Kool for the Holidays

Kool for the Holidays
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the CD
In keeping with the resurging popularity of 70s and 80s sounds, legendary groovemeisters of the period, Kool & The Gang (koolandthegang.com), are releasing their first ever holiday CD, "KOOL FOR THE HOLIDAYS" (ATO/Caroline Distribution).

The Kool & The Gang holiday CD fare, featuring six original songs and eight standards, follows on the heels of their wildly-successful 50-plus city tour in 2012 with Van Halen and equally impressive 2013 tours with Kid Rock and the Dave Matthews Band.

Its melody flipped slightly, “Winter Wonderland” pulsates to a dance beat and a tasteful rap while “Little Drummer Boy” segues from jazzy to funky and “Joy to World” carries a contemporary R&B groove. As beloved as the CD’s original songs are—the Kool and The Gang-written holiday originals are bound to become classics on their own.

Their music has been created by the same core of players for over four decades: Robert "Kool" Bell, his brother Ronald Khalis Bell, their longtime friends Dennis "DT" Thomas and George "Funky" Brown.

As reported in Billboard during the Van Halen Tour: “One unqualified success was the experiment of Kool & the Gang's opening set. If some — actually many — wondered how the R&B group would fare in front of Van Halen's hard rock crowd, doubts were dispelled quickly with the breezy lite funk of the 11-piece outfit's 50-minute set, which had the T-shirted, beer-drinking, fist-pumpers dancing exuberantly.”

Unique pairings for Kool & The Gang don’t exist only on stage; their bulletproof funk and jazzy arrangements have also made them the most sampled band of all time.

With the explosion of hip-hop in the ’90s, Kool & the Gang’s incredible catalog of grooves has made them DJ favorites, and they are second only to R&B icon James Brown as sources of rap-music samples. The Hits Reloaded album found the band collaborating with such acolytes as Lil’ Kim, Sean Paul, Ashanti, and Blackstreet, among others.

Selling over 70 million albums worldwide the band influenced the music of three generations. Thanks to songs like Celebration, Cherish, Summer Madness and Open Sesame, Kool & The Gang has earned two Grammy® Awards and seven American Music Awards and amassed 34 Top Ten R&B hits, nine Top Ten Pop hits and 31 gold and platinum albums. They have performed continuously longer than any R&B group in history.

“We are not over yet, we have other things we want to do—when my legs won’t run to those airports anymore then I might give up,” says band co-founder Ronald Khalis Bell.

As the purveyors of such booty-rocking standards as Jungle Boogie and Hollywood Swinging, the gang never fails to flex their funk – on both old-school workouts and hip-hop jams.

Along with the its original foursome, other band members include, Clifford Adams, Lavelle Evans, Larry Gittens, Timothy Horton, Shawn McQuiller, Michael Ray and Curtis "Fitz" Williams.
TRACK LISTING:

  1. Home for the Holidays
  2. Joy to the World
  3. Christmas Always
  4. Let’s Rejoice (Christmas is Here)
  5. Christmas Tyme (The Perfect Time for Love)
  6. The Little Drummer Boy
  7. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
  8. Winter Wonderland
  9. The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)
  10. I Love The Holidays

My Take on the CD
The album was not what I expected. I am a big fan and was expecting some similar sounds to what I remember from the 70's and 80's but this was definitely updated. There were some songs that I really liked like Joy to the World and The Christmas Song, but then there were some pieces that included a type of rap that I just did not connect to the band and felt out of place to me, but that might have been me. I will say that is was great hearing some of the original singers again and I was happy that they finally came out with their holiday album!

Book Review - Don't Count Me Out!

All opinions expressed in this review are my own and not influenced in any way by the company.  Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer or provider. Please refer to this site's Disclaimer  for more information. I have been compensated or given a product free of charge, but that does not impact my views or opinions.

Don't Count Me Out

About the Book
Daily, modern media documents the educational crisis society is facing. Every day over 7,000 school-age teenagers decides to become high-school dropouts. Shockingly, in America, where public education is free over 1,300,000 struggling students annually fail to complete their high school education. Education is rapidly deteriorating. Therefore, questions are asked in the media. Blame is placed on teachers, students, parents, community and economics, but solutions are few. Don't Count Me Out, contains two books within one book. Book 1 details informational secrets and strategies to help children or teenager reach their highest scholastic potential. Book 2 takes the reader from Pre-K to 12th and early college years detailing in-depth scholastic solutions to make academic success possible for those who struggle in one or all subjects areas. Within the pages are years of proven educational secrets and solutions that have transformed children and teenagers into academic winners and achievers.

Don’t Count Me Out! reveals:
  • Proven learning strategies for students with ADD, ADHD, and other learning difficulties
  • How we can restore “academic self-esteem” to our children
  • The important roles that parents and teachers play in shaping a student’s success
  • Tips for making learning fun, engaging, and effective
  • And much more!

My Take on the Book
This book was a book that truly provided valuable insights into how to best help my children be the best that they can be throughout their entire education. The author provides straight, honest, to-the-point ideas that will help you both advocate and assist students in their journey toward educational success. You will be provided with many great ideas that will open your eyes to new ways of assisting your children at home and within the classroom, and I already have some great new ideas to use with my own kids. I recommend this to any parent who has a child that struggles with learning, but also any parent who simply wants to find new ways in supporting their children in new ways - a great read!

LouAna Coconut Oil Gives Food a New Twist

LouAna Coconut Oil
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

It's officially holiday crunch-time, so I'm sure that you are compiling your recipes and grocery lists full of your family's favorite dishes. With that in mind I gave LouAna Pure Coconut Oil a try in some holiday recipes this season to try it out for myself.

Coconut oil is popping up everywhere these days — Food & Wine even posted an article about it last week. LouAna Coconut Oil contains zero trans-fat and no cholesterol and is easy to swap in instead of butter in all your holiday recipes . To help you make the switch, LouAna has created signature recipes for wintertime favorites featuring its Pure Coconut Oil, such as Classic Pecan Pie with Pecan Nut Crust, Rustic Cranberry-Apple Cobbler, and Whole Wheat Buttermilk Biscuits.

While coconut oil is wonderful oil for baking because of its high smoke point, it's also great for sautéing veggies, or even for swirling into your morning oatmeal.

My Take on the Oil
I tried using this first in some cookies I was making, and I have to say that the nice aroma as well as the light flavor that this added to the cookies themselves was great. On top of this I loved that it had no trans fat or cholesterol which is always something that I am looking for. I also tried this while making popcorn in my Amish popcorn popper that we have. The oil gave the popcorn a lightly sweet taste and I felt after using this that I really did not need to add additional butter in any sense. So far I am very impressed with using this and with the amount of oil you get in a container, I know that I will be using this for some time as well and am looking forward to it!

Movie Review - Saving Mr. Banks

Saving Mr. Banks
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Movie
Two-time Academy Award®–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks,” inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen. When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation. For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp. It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history. (WALT DISNEY PICTURES) This film is rated PG-13.

My Take on the Movie
When I first heard they were making a movie about how the “Mary Poppins” film came to be made, I was skeptical of just how ‘entertaining’ this movie was going to be. Boy, was I wrong! Thanks to an amazing cast, a wonderful script, and some great cinematography, ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ is one of the best movies of 2013!

Tom Hanks IS Walt Disney in the movie and Emma Thompson does a remarkable job of playing the very opinionated P.L. Travers, the author of the Mary Poppins book. The supporting cast is equally impresive, with Bradley Whitford as the script writer, and Jason Schwartzman and B. J. Novak as the Sherman Brothers music composers who try to work with P. L. Travers to gain her approval and finally make this project a reality for Walt Disney. Paul Giamatti does an excellent job playing her limo driver, who is one of the few people that really connects with her.

During the film, there are many flashbacks to P. L. Travers young life in Australia which is where the basic idea of the book began. These flashbacks are beautifully done with very creative transitions between past and present and really help the audience understand how she became the woman she is.

It is refreshing to see a movie based on a great story, with a great cast, and that is so entertaining without the use of shootings, explosions or superheroes.

Anyone who has seen ‘Mary Poppins’ must see this movie… you will love it!
