Book Review - The Recycling of Rosalie

About the Book
The Recycling of Rosalie is a delightful and funny love story about life after death and reincarnation with astral workers, nature spirits and guardian angels. "They have been meeting off and on for thousands of years because Love is Eternal!"

About the Author
At the age of three months, Patricia McLaine was taken into a church by her mother to have her life dedicated to God. Clairvoyant since childhood, Patricia's visionary tales of fairies, angels, and the apparitions of departed relatives were dismissed by most relatives as the products of a highly active imagination. Her parents met as missionaries and were deeply religious. Young Patricia read the Bible from cover to cover at the age of 14.

With such a background, it is not surprising she became a metaphysician at the age of 30. Her special talents have been featured in numerous books and articles, as well as on radio and television.

Patricia is also the author of "The Wheel of Destiny: The Tarot Reveals Your Master Plan" and two plays, "Sidney" and "Love is Contagious." "The Recycling of Rosalie" is her first novel.

My Take on the Book
This was an interesting book that was fun to read. What I loved most about the book were the characters themselves. The characters were memorable and were ones that I would not mind seeing again in the future. Rosalie herself was quite a unique character and one that I really enjoyed getting to know. I have read some of her past novels in the past and this is another great one for all to read whether you are already a fan of McLaine or not. In this story you not only get strong characters, but you also get a love story that will take you to another time and place. McLaine does a great job at helping her readers visualize the world she is creating and you get drawn into the world yourself.

Book Review - Archetypes

About the Book
Have you ever wondered why you are drawn to certain people, ideas, or products and turned off by others? Are you constantly searching for something you can’t put your finger on, or wondering whether you are living a life that truly fits?

In Archetypes, New York Times best-selling author Caroline Myss delves into the world of archetypes, which have been the subject of her work for more than 25 years. Archetypes are universal patterns of behavior that, once discovered, help you better understand yourself and your place in the world. In short, knowing your archetypes can transform your life.

Within the pages of this book, Myss writes about ten primary archetypes that have emerged in today’s society: the Caregiver, the Artist/Creative, the Fashionista, the Intellectual, the Rebel, the Queen/Executive, the Advocate, the Visionary, the Athlete, and the Spiritual Seeker. In each chapter, she explains one individual archetype, showing how it has evolved and then in fascinating detail lays out the unique characteristics, the defining graces, the life challenges, and other information to help you understand if you are part of this archetype family and if so, how you can fully tap into its power. She also offers tips and practical advice on how to fully engage with your archetypes.

Learning which archetypes best describe you is just the beginning. You can then use this knowledge to make more conscious decisions about everything from careers to relationships, avoiding common pitfalls of your personality type while playing up your strengths. The result is a happier, more authentic you. It’s never too late to change your life by embracing your archetypes to the fullest.

So are you a Rebel? An Artist? A Visionary? Join us . . . and find yourself.

My Take on the Book
Each every one of us has a unique and distinct personality that can connect instantly or not at all with another person. I know that I for one have always been intrigued on knowing why this is the case. This book tackles this question and allows the reader to be able to better understand the reasons why some things motivate us to do things while others do not. The author of examines 10 archetypes that she states will motivate us in different ways. Each one of these archetypes are different and unique in their own light and because of this you gain a better understanding not only about yourself but also about the people that surround you daily.

As I read this I found that there were aspects of different archetypes that I fell into and in thinking about even my own family members this seems to be the case as well, though there seemed to be specific archetypes that better fit me as well.

I found this book to be very insightful and a book that truly made you think deeply about yourself and how you interact with others. This was a powerful book that will help you to better notice things about yourself that you may not notice in the past and will help you to better understand how you can interact to a stronger degree with others around you. This is a great book that I would encourage all to read.

DVD Review - Taken 2

About the Movie
Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the ex-CIA operative who stopped at nothing to rescue his daughter from sadistic kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge, it is Bryan and his wife who find themselves "taken" hostage in Istanbul. To survive, Bryan must enlist the help of an unlikely ally and use his brutally efficient skills to take out his heavily-armed foes one by one.

My Take on the Film
It it has been a while since I first saw Taken, but I always remembered that it was a strong script with lots of action and Liam Neeson did a great job for training his character. I did not see this movie in the movie theater so I was interested to see how it would hold up to the original.

I have to say that the movie was definitely action-packed, low the beginning was a little bit cheesy with the build up to the action itself, but once the characters got to Istanbul, the actual action ramped up very quickly. It is believed definitely get to know Bryan Mill's (Liam Neeson) family much more than you did in the first. Did you get to see Liam Neeson's character doing what he does best, working alone, and taking no prisoners. Liam Neeson does a great job in his role and in some cases saves the film.

There are some great action scenes in the movie, and definitely some far-fetched things as well but all in all the movie was well made, this photography was great and the overall story itself was pretty good. The only part of the movie that was a bit far-fetched me was when Bryan Mills and his wife were kidnapped, the car scene makes it seem like they go much farther than they actually do and Mills is able to discern through his amazing CIA training where he is through the explosions of a few grenades ( which is pretty cool but a bit far-fetched).

I am not saying that the movie was bad in any sense there are some great action scenes and the acting is fairly strong. Overall, the movie was enjoyable, and anyone that likes Liam Neeson or action films should check this out!

DVD Review - End of Watch

About the Movie
From the writer of Training Day comes a gripping, action-packed cop drama starring Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. In their mission to abide by their oath to serve and protect, Officers Brian Taylor (Gyllenhaal) and Mike Zavala (Pena) have formed a powerful brotherhood to ensure they both go home at the end of watch. But nothing can prepare them for the violent backlash that happens after they pull over the members of a notorious drug cartel for a routine traffic stop. Seen from the point of view of the officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, dash cams and citizens caught in the line of fire, a 360 perspective creates a gritty, compassionate and intense portrait of the city's darkest streets, and the brave men and women patrolling them.

My Take on the Movie
Not  having seen this movie in the pastor even hearing much about the movie in the past I didn't know what to expect. I have to say that after watching the movie I was very surprised to find how powerful the movie was. the movie is a first-person narrative so you have to enjoy that type of movie as it makes you feel like you are part of the movie and with the characters as they go through the drama as well as the plot of the story that is being told. The actors within the movie did a great job and train their characters and it is a very raw look at law enforcement and the job they do. The movie attempts to show reality within law enforcement and to that end the ending of the movie is a much more reality-based ending then and some other movies of a similar topic. One of the things that I really liked about the movie was the relationship between the two main characters, as you really get to see the bond that has developed and develops in a partner relationship within law enforcement. This was a well conceptualized movie with good acting and great cinematography. The action and drama within the movie will keep you on the edge of your seat and leave you asking for more in the end.

DVD Review - Ruby's Studio: The Friendship Show

About the DVD
Join lovable host, Ruby, as she welcomes kids into her magical art studio for a day of creativity, fun, and friendship. With the help of adorable animated segments, art projects and inspired original music, this latest installment from the award-winning Ruby’s Studio series is sure to engage and delight young kids as well as serve as a helpful tool for parents who aim to raise kind, communicative, compassionate children.

With a curriculum guided by world-renowned parenting experts, "The Friendship Show" offers numerous social and emotional benefits for young children, including strengthening friendships through empathy, providing with tools to resolve conflict and confront bullying, and exploring the importance of The Golden Rule.

My Take on the DVD
The Mother Company has created a wonderful DVD for children to watch on friendship. I think it would be beneficial for an adult to watch it with the child so a discussion about the topics can occur after watching it.

The DVD explores the following topics: the important parts of friendship, why friends are important, how to make a friend, how to solve disagreements (conflict resolution), bullying and empathy. The lessons are done through animated characters which are involved in stories . The host, Ruby, extends the lessons through a discussion with children in her "magic studio".

There is music, singing, and a art project which can easily be done by your child. The emphasis is following the golden rule when it comes to treating our friends well and creating lasting friendships.

I feel this DVD could be used in a classroom setting as well as a home. To me the important part is Ruby gives the children and adults an avenue in which to discuss friendship. It seem there are more situations in which children are bullied by peers. I feel this one topic in this DVD could be an important one to open up discussions of feelings and conflict resolution. I encourage you to consider this DVD as a part of your family's video library.
