Activity Kit Review - Disney Villains Cross Stitch: 12 Wickedly Fun Patterns

Disney Villains Cross Stitch: 12 Wickedly Fun Patterns

About the Cross Stitch kit
They’ve got style, sass, and schemes! Over the years, Disney has created some epically evil villains. From cold-hearted Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians to sea witch Ursula from The Little Mermaid, Disney villains are definitely scene-stealers and style icons! And they’ve never been more popular.

So grab your hoop and some edge to your needlework with this colorful kit featuring twelve projects inspired by your favorite antagonists. All twelve projects include a witty overview highlighting fun facts about each villain, easy-to-follow patterns, and full-color photographs to help you visualize your projects.

You'll receive:
  • Bamboo embroidery hoop
  • 10 skeins of embroidery floss
  • 2 pieces of cross stitch fabric
  • 2 cross stitch needles
  • 48-page instruction book

The materials included in the kit allow you to complete two of the projects. Both the kit and your finished projects make great gifts for your friends and family who appreciate the glamorous dark side.

My Take on the Cross Stitch Kit
If you are a fan of Disney, but also love to cross stitch, this is the perfect gift. Whether it is for yourself or for someone else, the Disney fan of villains will be completely transfixed to what this kit offers. You get amazing patterns, and while you will not have enough fabric to make them all, you do have the ability to make two of them. My daughter has been a fan of the villains in the past and this really allowed her to dust off her cross stitch skills to make something unique for her room. She was so excited to make this, but also to share it with us and her friends (which she does not usually do). All-in-all I was really impressed with the patterns and the kit itself and you will too!

Signed, Sealed, Delivered - A Great New Family Series

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the B\Series
The new original series "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" is a wonderful combination of romance, comedy and drama that follows the lives of four postal detectives who transform themselves into a team of detectives to track down intended recipients of undeliverable mail. Their missions take them out of the office where redirected letters and packages can save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves and change futures by arriving late but somehow always on time. The team includes charming Oliver O’Toole (Eric Mabius), the group's leader is a man of faith who prayerfully approaches his work with the goal of making a difference in people's lives; new team member, Shane McInerney (Kristin Booth), a technophile who brings 21st century sensibility to the group; free-spirited, “girl next door” Rita Haywith (Crystal Lowe) who has a photographic memory; and lovable Norman Dorman (Geoff Gustafson), a master in conventional research methods. The show aires SUNDAYS, 8/7c on Hallmark

This incredible series even incorporates scripture in its themes and in the conversations between characters. In FACT, The American Bible Society has built a bible study to go with the series,

Sign up for that here: http://www.americanbible.org/features/signed-sealed-delivered

Isn't that great? A seven-day Bible reading experience to dig deeper into the meaningful biblical themes revealed in each episode of Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

My Take on the Series
I have been watching the series for a little while now. We missed the first two episodes due to a faulty DVR, so I hope that they either re-run those or have a compilation first season out later. This is a series that they whole family can watch and enjoy. We love watching it together and talking about some of the messages that are in it. The tie in to the Bible is great and every episode brings a new Bible passage and message into the show itself. I liked that each character has as much depth as they do and even though each of the characters are a bit quirky, as a group they all seem to work well together. I highly recommend this series to all, as it will put a smile on your face and reinforce the importance of friendship and doing things for others!

DVD Review - The Cleveland Show Season 2

The quiet town of Stoolbend, Virginia will never be the same now that Cleveland Brown and his new family have moved in. From Rich Appel, Mike Henry and Family Guy creator, Seth MacFarlane, comes the outrageous Emmy Award® nominated comedy, THE CLEVELAND SHOW Season 2 on DVD September 27 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Relive the laughs and antics of THE CLEVELAND SHOW Season 2 as Cleveland enters a drag race, Rallo befriends a troublemaking senior citizen, and Cleveland Jr. leads a nerd revolution at Comic-Con. This must-have TV-on-DVD release is filled with special guest appearances including Kanye West and Justin Timberlake (who plays a singing booger) and exclusive uncensoredcontent not shown on television.

The DVD is packed with tons of bonus features including uncensored and never-before-seen footage that will satisfy the most diehard fanboy. In addition to all 22 episodes, the DVD includes deleted scenes, featurettes, commentaries, and more. The ARP is $29.99.

THE CLEVELAND SHOW Season 2 follows everyone’s favorite soft spoken neighbor, Cleveland Brown (Mike Henry), as he settles into married life with his highschool sweetheart and their blended family in his hometown of Stoolbend, VA. Cleveland’s second wife, Donna (Sanaa Lathan), is a strong-willed and tenacious woman who puts family first and often has to come to her husband’s rescue or protect him from dangerous situations. Her two unruly kids – boy crazy teenage daughter Roberta (Reagan Gomez) and pint-sized 5-year-old Rallo (Henry) – can often be found conspiring with or against their insecure and naïve step-brother, Cleveland Jr. (Kevin Michael Richardson). Cleveland’s neighbors and sidekicks include loudmouth redneck Lester (Richardson); religious talking bear Tim (Seth MacFarlane) and his wife, Arianna (AriannaHuffington); and hipster wanna-be Holt (Jason Sudeikis).

My Take on the Show
If you like Family Guy you will see some definite similarities in this show. I had only seen this show once before and not that I have watched this DVD set, I can say that this was quite the funny series and if you like the humor in family guy you will like this as well. In saying this though I have to say that this show is different and unique from The Family Guy as well. It has its own jokes and stands strongly on its own. The characters were funny and witty and the writing in the show was strong. You will find yourself laughing out loud when watching these DVD's!

DVD Review - RIO

About the DVD
As summer heats up, spread your wings and celebrate with the funniest birds in town! The all-new comedy-adventure RIO comes to Blu-ray and DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. RIO brings together vivid characters and colorful backdrops amidst energizing Latin and contemporary tunes, creating the ultimate family-friendly music and dance experience for audiences of all ages. In addition to more than one hour of special bonus features and materials, consumers will have access to all-new exclusive levels of the smash video game hit Angry Birds Rio® that showcase your favorite characters from the film!

Captured as a young bird from the wild, Blu (Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network) is a domesticated Spix Macaw living thousands of miles away from his homeland, Brazil. When his human owner Linda (Leslie Mann, 17 Again) discovers that he is the last male of his kind, they head south to Rio de Janeiro to meet the only other female. But it's far from love at first sight between the socially-awkward, flight-challenged Blu and the fiercely independent, high-flying female, Jewel (Anne Hathaway, The Princess Diaries). Shortly after Blu's arrival, the two rare birds are captured by greedy animal smugglers and find themselves lost in the Brazilian rainforest. Unexpectedly thrown together, they embark on a hilarious and clumsy adventure where they learn about friendship, love, courage and spreading one's wings to fly.

The creators of ICE AGE bring audiences a whole new tropical adventure in RIO featuring the most colorful cast of characters south of the Equator, including George Lopez (Beverly Hills Chihuahua), Tracy Morgan ("30 Rock"), Jemaine Clement (Despicable Me), Rodrigo Santoro (Che), will.i.am (Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa), Jamie Foxx (Dreamgirls), Jane Lynch "Glee"), & Wanda Sykes (Over The Hedge).

RIO will be available in a 3-Disc Party Edition, featuring the Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital Copy, as well as in a 2-Disc DVD Party Edition. It is available in the U.S. and Canada.

My Take on the DVD
My family and I missed seeing this in the movie theatre so we have been awaiting this movie with great anticipation. When I was asked to review this extended 2 disc version of the DVD, I can honestly say that I was very excited! In watching the movie I was amazed at how beautifully done all of the artwork was in this movie and there were many funny parts within the movie as well. The characters within the movie work so well together and there is much humor in the bantering between the characters themselves. It was interesting to see this though as I think that some of the humor in this and in other cartoons today are written in part for adults (which I enjoy though).

My kids loved the bonus features in this movie, they were dancing up a storm though much of the dance sequences and they loved exploring the world of RIO (they said that this part was cool).

All-in-all though I would highly recommend this movie to all. It was a great family film with a good message and you have fun throughout and even learn a bit about a new culture along the way!

A bully favorite, Greg tries not to get noticed by anyone except the pretty new girl, Holly Hills (Peyton List,27 Dresses). And at home, Greg is still at war with his older brother, Rodrick (Devon Bostick, “Degrassi”), until their mom Susan (Rachael Harris, The Hangover) instigates a ‘Mom Bucks’ program so Greg and Rodrick can earn play money by doing chores and—gasp!—being nice to each other. Calamity ensues when their parents return from vacation and dad Frank (Steve Zahn, A Perfect Getaway) finds evidence that Rodrick secretly threw a houseparty with his band, Löded Diper. My Take on the Movie
My family really liked the first Diary of A Wimpy Kid movie and from that, my eldest daughter started reading the books as well. She will sit up in her room for hours getting lost in the story!

This movie, though not completely like the book, still was fun. The Director did a much better job in character development than in the first movie. You learn much more about the brothers and you start to truly see them living and acting lacrger than life.

Though some people may find some of the humor a bit juvenile the plot was strong and parents will definitely come to a better appreciation for the scenarions and will see their own lives reflected within the story of this as well.

Overall, I recommend this movie. Whether you have read the books or not, this movie is a fun one and one that you will definitely enjoy with your family!

Movie Review - Forged

About the Movie
An ex-thug and his son attempt to find a way to move past impossible circumstances to forge a bond that has been forever broken by the murder of the child's mother.
Set in the cold and rusty steel mill town of Scranton, Pennsylvania, FORGED follows Chuco (Manny Perez) on his quest to redeem himself committing a horrific sin — the murder of his wife. After Chuco’s release from prison, his now 13-year-old, abused and homeless son, Machito (David Castro), seeks him out and simply mutters: “You killed my mother. Now I kill you.” As Chuco’s guilt and Machito’s need for a father take hold, they must both find a way to move past impossible circumstances to forge a bond that has been forever broken.

Engulfed by a bleak and lonely air, FORGED tells a profound, introverted story that is both exhilarating and heartfelt — an exploration into the deep bonds of family when one man’s search for redemption might beg for more than he can give.

My Take on the Movie
A powerful, deep, and somewhat dark movie about redemption and what a father will do to make atonement for the sins of his past. Just in time for fathers day this movie reminds viewers that the love of a father knows no bounds and even those that may have sinned greatest in their lives may still be able to come back from the brink to find their humanity, their soul and their purpose, though not always in the way that you would imagine.

A riveting movie!

My Take on the DVDI have come to like the Focker movies in the past for their fun loving humor as well as the situations that are always introduced that seem to provide a glimpse into the crazy relationships and situations that surround bringing together two differing families.

This movie continues the tradition! What I loved about this was was the added fun of adding in additional kids to the mix. I also liked the the fact that the movie showed some very real situations that I could see many families having. Having kids intensifies the family dynamic as well as the relationships with your extended family, and sometimes this can be both frustrating, humorous, and exasperating. This movie brought this and many other scenarios to the table and lets people see, through a fun outlet, some of the humor in serious situations and even gives couples some ideas of how you might be able to get past some of these issues as well.

As always, the main characters were great working together. I do not know whether there is another movie in the future, but I would not mind seeing more in the future!

My Take on the DVD
What I love most about this DVD is the fact that this DVD not only tells a great story, it also educates the viewer on art techniques and is filled with some great contemporary Christian Music. I will be honest and say that the DVD is not animated but instead illustrated and narrated. For some kids that are used to Pixar Animation, this may take a little getting used to, but all-in-all, the illustrations are beautiful and my kids liked it and afterwards they wanted to start drawing like the moved showed them!

The movie's narration can be a little choppy at times, but the story is still well conveyed and the lesson after the movie is well done!

Similar to adding the right accessory to an outfit, adding certain design elements to a room can take it from plain to put-together. Two designers, Jamie Gibbs of Jamie Gibbs and Associates and Elaine Griffin of Elaine Griffin Interior Design and author of Design Rules: The Insider's Guide to Becoming Your Own Decorator provide five practical tips to add drama to a room, while still leaving you with money leftover for the right accessories.

  1. Flowers: “You don’t have to tear down a room and build it up from a perfect blueprint to have a great space. There are certain things you can add to any room to leave guests wowed without much effort or cost. Flowers are a great first step” says Elaine Griffin. Add flora in eye-catching colors like bright pink, purple or yellow to brighten up any interior. To add extra flair, choose a vase in a complementary color and mix types such as yellow roses, snapdragons and hot-pink gerbera daisies.

  2. Print Rug: “If a room is too simple, make the rug your focal point. It can often set the style and is inexpensive enough to be bold. For the pattern, try graphic, animal or stripes” says Jamie Gibbs. Use a large rug that covers most of the room and experiment with the shape of the rug as well as the pattern. Rather than the standard square or rectangle rug, try a circle or oval shape. While handmade rugs can become very costly, there are several inexpensive machine woven styles at various retailers that pack all the punch and are still affordable.

  3. Pillows: “Pillows can be the most cost-effective way to add color and texture to a room. Try silk, suede and even linen. Mixing color and materials is key for a ramatic and styled room” advises Griffin. To save money, go to a local fabric store and buy several striking fabrics to make your own pillow covers. These can easily be swapped seasonally or by mood.

  4. Wall Art: “Painting in bold colors is not the best idea. It is often expensive, time-consuming and when too exotic, people usually get overwhelmed and want to change it after only a few months. A great way to have a splash of color and add pattern to your walls without the cost and time, is by using WallPops wall art.
  5. Mirrors: “A mirror can not only add space to a room but also style. Look for large mirrors in vintage stores and flea markets with interesting frames. Place the mirror so it is one of the first things you see when you enter the room or place several mirrors together to create an accent wall to add depth and design” offers Gibbs.
It is non-commitment decorating that is fun and can be easily changed” says Griffin. The peel-and-stick wall art comes in dots, blocks and stripes in various colors and patterns that can be arranged to create patterns, stripes or cover an entire wall. New styles have recently been added including:
  • Bali: a black-and-white intricate design with an ethnic/tribal feel.
  • Carnivale: a red, orange, yellow and brown circular pattern with blossoming floral patterns inspired by Brazilian margaridas
  • Esprit: a colorful, modern floral print
  • Habitat: a nature-inspired leaf print with popular colors like teal, chocolate brown and a grassy green
  • Go Wild: a black-and-white zebra print
  • Twister: a violet, tan, deep cerulean blue and olive green retro pattern with free-flowing swirls and dots with die-cut stripes
“The great thing about these patterns is the fun colors and the on-trend design. Wall art doesn’t have to be color-coordinated to the room, you don’t want something that is neutral but you don’t want something that clashes, it offers a range of color within the design that allow you to go in very different directions” Gibbs says. Also available, Wall Art Kit that include several pieces of wall art and WallPops Dry Erase Sheet, Dry Erase Monthly Calendar and 4-Piece Calendar Sets that serve as great organizational tools.

By adding these elements to a room, you can go from basic to dramatic without spending a lot of time and money.

My Take on These Products
With Divas in the household they are always looking to spruce up a room here or there. Wall Pops provides our home with some great ideas for changing a room completely with only a few images here and there. There are so many different images to choose from I was excited to even see that they had Disney images as you can guess that my girls love the Disney princesses. We were able to try:

We loved these and on the Calendar, I was impressed to the ability that this provided me to be able to write on the decal to organize the family. We also really liked the above flower, as it was a bit of a modern take on design, but we incorporated it into our stars and we loved the outcome. The pictures I took of it did not do it justice so I did not try to show it here, but take my word on it, it looked great and it was so easy to install!
