Book Review - Destination of the Species

About The Book
The inspiration for writing Destination of the Species: The Riddle of Human Existence (O-Books) emerged from the author’s own need for a better understanding of our place in the universe, prompting questions such as: Is the world driven by pitiless, directionless chance as the Dawkins and neo-Darwinian view would have it, or is there a verifiable evidence of purpose detectable within it?  A Member of Parliament for nearly forty years, frustrated and disgusted in the corruption of modern politics, where conviction, vision, and sense of purpose have bee n replaced by personal ambition and manipulation, Meacher turned to physics, biology, chemistry and cosmology in an attempt to find answers.

Written with careful deliberation and without the preconceived propagandistic viewpoint of religion, science, philosophy or environmental dogma, this fascinating book began as a personal quest to figure how it all fits together.  By merging the religion of his youth, the philosophy of his degree, the politics of his occupation, the science of the universe, and the threat to the environment and our survival on Earth, the author has brilliantly made sense of the central question – what does it all mean?

Not a book to easily put down, Destination of the Species points out the ultimate reality; not of the human race as the summit of evolution, but of an overarching cosmic plan of which we may well be a key part.  Visit Meacher’s enlightening website at www.michaelmeacher.info where every topic of interest to mankind today is discussed in great detail.

A long-time Member of Parliament, along with the rest of civilization at some point, had questioned what our purpose is here on earth.  Although no one person can provide the final answer on the mystery of human existence or what it all means, Michael Meacher  makes a very credible, twenty-first century interpretation of the evidence on the meaning of human existence.  In his thought-provoking book, Destination of the Species, he covers the science of the universe around us, the threat to the environment, and our survival on earth – all powerful topics that draw a great deal of public interest.

My Take On The Book
I did not know what to expect with this book, though I knew that it would be quite in depth and deep (in regards to the topics discussed). After reading the book, I was very impressed at the depth and breadth that the author goes into the subject.

While I have read many books on many different types of topics, this book was a challenging one to read and comprehend, and one that I know I will need to read more than once to grasp all of the concepts.

The book itself challenged my beliefs of religion and science and how they intersect. These topics are controversial, but the author takes a systematic approach to looking at these issues.

As I mentioned, this book is one that will challenge you, but it is one that has a lot to say and share with you to expand your knowledge and understanding of the juxtaposition of religion and science.
