Book Review - Defenders of Shadow and Light: Ghost Thief
About the Book
Murray Gastev is anything but ordinary. He's a thief for hire and a good one at that. He completes his latest job but ends up with far more than just the cash he expected to receive. He finds he now has the ability to pass through walls and float. There are just two small problems: He can't breathe while he 'ghosts' and he can't control where he floats to. With the help of some new friends, Murray might learn to control his powers and may even pull off his biggest heist yet. If he doesn't end up being sliced to ribbons first.
My Take on the Book
This was a truly engaging story which seems to be the first of many (I hope). As someone that has always been intrigued by superhero stories, I love that this character receives his powers and uses them for good. He is definitely not perfect and there are some aspects of his character that are questionable, but the story was still great and I was drawn in throughout the book. The book was a very fast read and action packed. The author also does a great job at developing hischaracters too. All-in-all this is a book that I truly hope is the start of a new series!

About the Book
In the newest Berenstain Bears Living Lights book, The Berenstain Bears and the Christmas Angel, the cubs discover there’s more to angels than wings and flowing white robes!
It is almost Christmas and there is finally snow in Bear Country. Brother, Sister, and Honey Bear are ready for some winter fun! But when they can’t decide what kind of snowbear to build, Honey Bear’s snow angel gives the older cubs a great idea. Soon the cubs have built a Christmas snow angel. We love these new books and how they tie to the teachings in the Bible. This is a great way to share the good news of the Bible in a way that is fun to share with the whole family. In this book you can learn a lot more about Angels and have a broader discussion with your kids about the Angels watching over us too! A great story!

Book Review - Endangered: Animals to Color
About the Book
Endangered is a coloring book with a conscience and a cause. Barron’s is proud to donate a 2% royalty of all proceeds earned by this coloring book to the IFAW (The International Fund for Animal Welfare) to help them rescue, raise, and release endangered wildlife. A portion of the proceeds will also go towards preserving critical habitats and reducing human-wildlife conflicts.
Enter a world of spectacular animals that are under siege. This splendidly illustrated collection of endangered animal portraits comes from Craig Norton, an accomplished fine artist known for his drawing skills and his focus on social issues in his art. In Endangered, coloring book fans will find lots of incredible illustrations and riveting information about imperiled animals with dwindling populations. These are not the typical animals you see in animal-themed coloring books. Instead, you’ll find unique portraits to color featuring the Sumatran Elephant, Red Wolf, California Condor, Bluefin Tuna, Galápagos Penguin, Green Turtle, Snow Leopard, Sea Lion, Monarch Butterfly, Brown Bear, Narwhal, and many more. Each illustration is accompanied by vital facts about the animal, such as geographic location, habitat, population, and reasons for its decline. Every gorgeous design is printed on perforated paper, so it is easily pulled out and readily available for display once you’ve completed your coloring sessions. Informative, restorative, and beautiful, coloring fans and animal lovers alike will be moved as they color and learn about endangered animals.
My Take on the Book
If you love unique coloring books this is it. You will find some amazing animals that will allow you to create and save for yourself some of the endangered animals for yourself. My daughters loved to use this for herself and she found that after finishing these she would share the completed pages with friends and family members. One of the other very cool things was that for every book that is purchased you are supporting the International Fund for Animal Welfare!

This was a great book that brings together a great mystery as well as an amazing duo that will keep you coming back for more. The author has done a great job creating a duo that truly compliments each other and the adventures and misadventures that they have together are truly epic. My youngest daughter read this with me and I have to say that the story was truly engaging and we loved the humor and the overall story line. Book Review - Monsterville: A Lissa Black Production
About the Book
Beware what lurks beneath your bed... It could lead to a monstrous adventure.
Thirteen-year-old Lissa Black is miserable when her parents force her to move from New York City (the perfect home for an aspiring writer/director/actress) to Freeburg, Pennsylvania, nowhere capital of the world. There’s nothing to do there, except play her little sister Haylie’s favorite new game, Monsterville, and hang out with her new neighbor Adam.
But when a walk in the woods lands her face-to-face with a swamp monster hungry for brains and then a Sasquatch that moos, even Lissa can’t call her new home totally boring. With Adam’s help, she catches the culprit behind the drama: a shape-shifting goblin who’s fled from the monster world of Down Below.
And what do you do with a creature that can be literally anything? Make monster movies, of course! Lissa is convinced that Blue will be the secret to her big break.
But when Haylie goes missing on Halloween, Lissa, Adam, and the monster must venture Down Below to stage a rescue—and face the real Monsterville, which is anything but a game.
Monsterville is a fusion of The Boxtrolls, Jumanji, and Candyland, weaving together friendship, family, and monsters into a funny fantasy-horror brimming with heart from a great new middle grade voice.
My Take on the Book
This was a fun book that offers a little bit of everything for all ages to enjoy. My family are mystery fans so this book fit great into our to read list and although my girls may not usually like the supernatural (with monsters and such) this one was different and the mix of humor, mystery and adventure was a definitely draw and a sell for my girls. The author has also created some great relationships between the characters which made the read even more enjoyable! By the end of the book my daughters were wondering if there was a book 2 which is always a sign of good writing in my household! In the end the book was a fast paced read that was thoroughly enjoyable for kids or the whole family to read together.

Book Review - Sucktown, Alaska
About the Book
Sucktown, Suckington, Suckfield, Suckingham, Suckland, Suckmont, Suck Francisco. By any other name Kusko, Alaska, would still smell like human sweat, moose stew, and dog poop. But Eddie Ashford can t be choosy after partying his way out of college in one semester s time. He lands a job in tiny Kusko, a bush town located in the heart of unromantic Alaska, he s warned. Eddie intends to straighten out his act and make good on a promise to stay for a year, but soon he s indebted to his employer, overworked, and underpaid. He is also spurned by the almost-perfect girl, frustrated, and bored. He finds himself caught in a dilemma: do the right thing, work hard, and stick it out in Kusko or take a chance, smuggle some goods for the local pot dealer, and pile up the cash to pay his way out of Suckramento?
My Take on the Book
This was a book that really challenges you to see the world in a new way, through the eyes of a character that is not the easiest to love. That being said you can empathize with the character to the situation that he is in and the author does a great job at being able to get you connected to the world that he lives in. The author creates vivid images within the book and you really do get drawn into the story and the drama that surrounds the main characters' life. While you know that this character is a train wreck you hold out hope for better and what you get, well I cannot tell you, but it is a story that continues to keep giving at every corner!

Book Review - Friday, Saturday, Sunday in Texas
About the Book
A veteran Texas sports writer offers a lively, up-close look at football in Texas—the fullest portrait ever conceived—viewed through the interwoven stories of three teams, Plano Senior High School, Baylor University, and the Dallas Cowboys, during one season.
In Texas, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mean one thing: football. Dallas Cowboys’ writer Nick Eatman follows three teams in three leagues throughout the 2015 season blending their stories into a unique, eye-opening chronicle of Lone Star football. Eatman highlights the ups and downs and even the parallels that these teams experienced over the course of the year. Granted unique access to every level of the three teams, and drawing on his invaluable connections, he follows key players and coaches, including stars from Baylor and Plano, Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, and head coaches Jason Garrett, Art Briles, and Jaydon McCullough.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday in Texas reveals the inextricable connections between the three teams and the players as the season unfolds. As high school athletes strive to win a spot at colleges like Baylor, college players fight for the chance to go pro, while Cowboys teammates reflect on their rise to the NFL. Though their challenges may differ—prepping for the SATs or Homecoming, working to get noticed by NFL scouts, or trying to prove themselves for that next contract in the pros—when the lights come on and they hit the field, they share one goal: to win.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday in Texas features sixteen pages of color photos that capture the highs and lows of the 2015 season. Combining the power of Friday Night Lights and the inspiring insight of Remember the Titans, it offers a fresh perspective on this beloved sport, and is a must for football fans.
My Take on the Book
I have always heard that Football in Texas is a BIG thing but this book really shows you how BIG it is. This is a powerful book that really opens your eyes to the love that people have for this sport as well as gives you an insiders look into some amazing football teams too. I was appreciative of the investigative approach to the stories that were interwoven together and in the end if you are a fan of football the stories that you see here are timeless and hold no geographic boundaries. You also get a full picture of the sport from an author that you can tell is passionate about the topic and he brings in this passion and his experiences into the storytelling that he offers throughout the book. If you love football this is an amazing book that will make you appreciate it even more!
