For the past 15 years, Extra Innings has been providing specialized baseball and softball instruction at their 40 centers across the country. Now, the entire world will have access to personal coaching with the launch of Extra Innings Mobile Instructor iOS app to be released onAugust 5.
Developed by Aurnhammer LLC, the Mobile Instructor app will allow users to record and upload video and then provide their own commentary using a “white board” technique. Retailing for $4.99, the app will also give users access to online ordering at Extra Innings’ Pro Shops where baseball and softball equipment and apparel can be purchased directly through the app as well as access to the Extra Innings center finder. Alerts for special events such as hitting and pitching clinics and exclusive Pro Shop retail offers are also available.
Through the app, the user will have the choice to submit the recorded videos to Extra Innings instructors, most of whom are ex-Major League and Minor League ball players, for professional analysis. Video submissions are sold in bundles of three; one submission with three videos costs $14.99, three submissions with nine videos for $39.99 and six submissions with 18 videos for $74.99. Submissions purchased do not expire. For a limited time, Extra Innings is giving away one free analysis submission with the download.
Users can take video of a baseball or softball player in action and submit that video through the site. Within 48 hours an Extra Innings instructor will respond with critique of the player’s form and technique and show where improvements can be made. By entering a zip code, if the user is near an Extra Innings facility, the videos will be critiqued by an instructor from their local Extra Innings facility. If the user does not have an Extra Innings facility nearby, the videos will be reviewed by instructors at Extra Innings’ company headquarters.
“This is groundbreaking within the industry,” said Extra Innings’ founder Rob Nash. “Whether you’re a parent with little knowledge of baseball looking to give your child a leg up or an elite player who is having a bad day during a tournament, our instructors can help improve any player’s game. Additionally, if players are already receiving personal instruction at an Extra Innings facility, these videos will make in-person instruction sessions more effective.”
From its inception, Extra Innings recognized the strong demand for a specialized baseball/softball training center that also sold apparel and equipment. The first Extra Innings was opened in 1996 as a small 8,000-square-foot facility in Danvers, Mass., outside Boston, by Nash and Joe Luis, former minor-league players from the same Massachusetts town who had each been providing baseball instruction on their own after their playing careers ended. Recognizing the strong demand for a specialized baseball/softball training center that also sold equipment, Extra Innings moved into its flagship 17,000-square-foot facility in Middleton, Mass., in 1998.
The Extra Innings Franchise Company was started in 2004 to franchise the unique and profitable business model throughout the United States. Extra Innings has nearly 40 locations in 17 states in all regions of the country and projections call for close to 60 locations to be in operation by the end of 2012.
