CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run Supports Breast Cancer Research

CYBEX International, Inc., a leading manufacturer of premium exercise equipment, has announced that it will sponsor its third annual Pink Ribbon Run, part of the company’s support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Through the Run, which takes place from October 1 through October 31, 2011, CYBEX will donate $0.10 per mile for each mile a club member logs on one of its custom-made pink treadmills. Donations will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).

Based on the ongoing success of the Pink Ribbon Run, CYBEX is expanding the platform. In advance of the official debut of the program, the Run is currently featured at the New Haven Open, a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) event presented by First Niagara Bank. The Open will be taking place through August 27th at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale University. Tennis fans and supporters of cancer research can log Pink Ribbon Run miles, with per-mile donations going to the Susan G. Komen Connecticut Affiliate and the Breast Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Lump-sum donations can also be made by emailing pinkribbonrun@newhavenopen.com.  In addition, a custom CYBEX pink treadmill, autographed by featured tennis players and celebrities, will be auctioned off, with all proceeds benefiting local breast cancer charities (online bids can be placed on www.charitybuzz.com).

Along with the Run’s early introduction this year, CYBEX is introducing a social media promotion, a CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run Video Contest, and giving away premium exercise equipment to engage the public in exercise and to share their stories about breast cancer.

Clubs can easily participate in this year’s CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run. The purchase of a new pink treadmill—to be delivered by September 30, 2011 to be eligible for the Run—includes a pre-packaged breast cancer awareness campaign promoting a facility’s participation (including press release, web imagery, poster and hang tag). The treadmill can be registered by using its accompanying CD, or by going to www.cybexintl.com/pinkribbonrun. Initial treadmill mileage is registered 0n October 1 and the ending number on October 31st, 2011. 

Anne Worcester, tournament director of the New Haven Open at Yale who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, added: “It is our goal to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, especially the importance of early detection.  Fans, breast cancer survivors and the tennis players themselves can participate in the CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run in one of three ways:  by walking or running on the treadmill, making a donation per mile or bidding in the auction of the pink treadmill.”
