 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
This how-to book is jammed with DIY accessories to brighten your closet! Sparkle and shine from head to toe with glam scarves, bags, and jewelry. The projects in this book are gorgeous, achievable, and affordable and best of all, everything you make will have your own personal style after you craft it yourself!

My Take on the Book
The authors of this resource book have brought to the reader over 60 projects to make. The projects range from easy like a button bracelet, to more difficult like the necklace that uses embossing, stamping blocks, and metal blanks.

There are projects for belts, hats, jewelry, hair accessories, and much more. The authors included a photograph of the finished project. Some projects have additional photographs if there is a part of the project that needs additional details. The materials are listed along with detailed step by step instructions.
In my opinion , most of the projects would be for an older child.

Book Review - The Happiest Book Ever

The Happiest Book Ever

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
What could be happier than a book with a dancing cake, a candy parade, and a hug monster? A book with all those things (and more) plus YOU! Your happy, happy thoughts will make this book super happy happy! But something seems off. Could it be that frowny frog? Perhaps we could shake some sense into him, or slap a Post-it over his face. No? Well then, maybe its time for that frog to SCRAM! Hooray! He's gone! Time for a happy dance! Wait, what's wrong? Now NO ONE seems happy! Let's see if we can't do something to truly make this the happiest book ever.

In his most interactive book yet, Bob Shea proves that happiness is more than just a piece of chocolate cake. (Though that comes pretty close!)

My Take on the Book
Bob Shea's book was written for children between six and eight years old. Knowing this age level, he has written a funny book for them. He draws characters doing silly things. For example a cake dancing and gum drops playing double dutch. The focus seems to be a frog who does not smile.

The story highlights being happy or trying to make up funny things. However as the main character becomes angry at the frog who won't smile and banishes it from the story, you also see how anger and being mean is not acceptable. The author highlights the importance of apologizing at the end.

Book Review - Hotel Bruce

Hotel Bruce

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
When Bruce gets home from a southern migration trip with his goslings, he is tired. He is grumpy. And he is definitely not in the mood to share his home with the trio of mice who have turned his den into a hotel.

There's a possum pillow fight wreaking havoc in one room, a fox luring guests into a stew in the kitchen, and a snuggly crew of critters hogging the bed. Bruce growls and grumbles and tries to throw them all out, but the entrepreneurial mice just can't take a hint. Bruce is in a little over his head, especially once the goslings join the staff. Will this grumpy bear ever get his quiet, peaceful den back to himself?

My Take on the Book
Your young child will thoroughly enjoy HOTEL BRUCE.The author/illustrator provides a funny story and delightful illustrations. Make sure you look at all the details on each page. Bruce, the bear, is the mother of 4 Canadian Geese. He leaves on a vacation to return to his den and find it over run with woodland animals. The mice turned his den into a hotel. Bruce is patient for a while but then totally gets angry as pandemonium arises. He kicks everyone out of his home. The situations will bring a smile and laughter. You will see Bruce's frustration and see how he feels as it seems to get crazier in his den by the minute. You will also see , at the end, how Bruce's kindness prevails.

Enjoy this wonderful book.

Book Review - Razzle Dazzle Unicorn: Another Phoebe and Her Unicorn Adventure

Razzle Dazzle Unicorn: Another Phoebe and Her Unicorn Adventure

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
Get ready to be bedazzled!

Phoebe and Her Unicorn is back with more sparkles than ever! In this fourth volume, join in the adventure as Phoebe and Marigold confront messy rooms, trouble at school, and a nasty case of “Sparkle Fever.” Follow the pair back to Camp Wolfgang, where their old pals Sue (a.k.a. “Monster Girl”) and Ringo, the lake creature, remind them that being weird is WAY more fun than being normal.

My Take on the Book
This is volume four of Phoebe and her unicorn, Marigold.

The format of the book is set up like a comic book with boxed illustrations and speech bubbles. The author does a great job in her illustrations to make sure the reader knows how the characters are feeling through facial expressions.

Phoebe has quite an imagination. she and her unicorn are constantly discussing life and their situations. Marigold is a talking unicorn.

The reader sees Phoebe experiencing normal family and friends issues. The good part of Phoebe and Marigold's relationship, is Marigold is a very good listener and sounding board for Phoebe.

At the end of the book the author includes a section for the reader that shows how she creates a comic book story. It is a good step by step process for the child who would like to experiment with this kind of format.

Book Review - Sneaky Blends: Supercharge Your Health with More Than 100 Recipes Using the Power of Purees

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
The New York Times bestselling author of The Sneaky Chef brings us the next trend in healthy eating with delicious and easy recipes whipped up with nutrient-dense purees to create leaner, cleaner yet ridiculously tasty meals.

BLEND (blend) NOUN: a combination of different tastes made from superfoods, like blueberries, kale, and broccoli that are packed with disease fighting phytonutrients, fiber, and low in calories.

When the New York Times bestselling Sneaky Chef took off, Missy Chase Lapine knew parents were finally getting their kids to eat healthy with hidden veggie purees (a.k.a. Blends). What surprised her, though, was that those same parents were using Blends in their own recipes and feeling more energized. Taking her cue from those parents, Missy is on a mission with Sneaky Blends to show how anyone can eat healthy without sacrificing taste.

Starting off with fifteen signature Base Blends, such as Butternut Squash-Apple, Black Bean-Blueberry-Baby Kale, and Carrot-Sweet Potato, Missy shows you how these nutrient packed blends can kick start your healthy lifestyle. When these blends are added to your favorite recipes or one of Missy’s delicious recipes like Zucchini Pasta Piccata, Chai Tea Smoothie Bowl, Cheesy Kale-Basil SoufflĂ©, Meaty Mushroom Bolognese, or 45-Calorie Pumpkin Whoopie Pies, they instantly become healthy. This is healthy eating without deprivation!

Missy also has created the Blends Cleanse™, a 3-day Body Reboot that you can tailor to your own lifestyle, giving you a diet do-over and setting you on the path to weight loss. Full of gorgeous color photos and tips and tricks to start blending, this is the only cookbook you will need to detox and transform your overall health while still enjoying delicious meals.

My Take on the Book
Missy Chase Lapine wrote a previous cookbook called THE SNEAKY CHEF. The book was written to assist parents with adding healthy vegetable purees into the foods they prepare for their children.
In this book the author instructs the reader on the equipment needed, the fruits , vegetables and other foods that are best to purchase. She includes in the first section a detox which is healthy and will help you to begin to lose weight.

Each recipe is written well, with the ingredients, excellent step by step instructions, how many servings, and even a break down of calories, fat, fiber, sugar, etc. There are beautiful color photos for most of the recipes. The author also includes charts that show how her recipes measure up to a usual recipe in calories , sugar, fiber, etc. I think this is helpful for the person preparing the food and the author charts in way that is easy to understand and read quickly.

The recipes in the cookbook, range from the base blends, breakfasts, main courses and light lunches, snacks and dips, smoothies, and sweet bites .If you enjoyed the author's first cookbook, I believe you will want to take a look at her new one.

Book Review - Frozen: A Pop-Up Adventure

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
Featuring nearly 20 pop-ups from the New York Times best-selling author, artist, and pop-up master, Matthew Reinhart, this breathtaking work of art revisits the enduring story of Frozen.

Elsa and Anna's remarkable adventure lives on in a magnificent display of paper engineering and artistic devotion. Frozen Pop-Up is a vibrant tribute to these beloved characters and teaches readers of all ages to let it go.

My Take on the Book
Wow, this book is wonderful. Matthew Reinhart has taken the delightful FROZEN story and used his talented art work to make the story come to life on the pages of this book. As you open the book to read it to your child , your child will have opportunities to interact with the story and the characters.
For example, on the first page you see Elsa and Anna as children playing in the snow. Your child is to pull a tab that is attached to each character and you see Elsa accidently struck Anna with her powers.

You see Anna fall and shivering in the snow. One more example I will share is on the last page in which you see Anna turn to ice and then pull another tab and they are ice skating and so happy together. On the last page the entire first scene disappears to the back as the new scene appears.

It is truly magical the way the pulls and flaps work . If your child enjoyed the movie FROZEN, I believe this book will become a favorite to read often.

Book Review - 101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up

101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up

 photo disclaimer_zpsd3x74ej2.jpg

About the Book
101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up is a fun handbook for book lovers and their families to

read, check off, and give their own book reviews.

101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up provides a comprehensive list of kid-friendly books for children to read before they grow up. This must-read review list acts as an interactive journal where kids can document the books they read, why they like them, and how they rate them. Divided into sections by subject, from fairy tales and fantasy to sports and nonfiction, 101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up celebrates the importance of reading and encourages family participation to develop lifelong readers. The perfect reference guide for book lovers of all ages, 101 Books to Read Before You Grow Up helps both kids and parents decide which books to read next!

My Take on the Book
This book is a great resource for adults. If you are not familiar with children's books, the lists the author includes will offer you many books that you can introduce your child to when they want to read or when you want to read a story to your child.

The author does several things that I think make this a great resource. In her table of contents she divides the books into age levels. At the back of the book she takes all the books and divides them into specific genre.

Each book has a page or two of its own. There is a short introduction to the story, a list of books that are similar, an interesting illustration, and a place for the child to rate the book's story, name a favorite character, and add any other comment.

Even though the author highlights 101 books, because she also listed other books to read on the same page as the highlighted book, this resource has far more than the 101 titles. Bianca Schulze included a " Did you know" fact about the book on each page too. I found those very interesting to read.

A great book to add to your family library.
