Book Review - Daydream Doodles

Daydream Doodles

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Hidden artistic talent will take flight with these sophisticated new doodle books. Each includes more than 100 drawings for kids to complete. From a deep sea adventure to an assembly line in a shoe factory, these exciting and unusual scenes will spark laughter and imagination. Kids can choose to finish the illustration by copying the artwork's style or they can develop their own unique drawings. Splashes of color throughout and a special section of die-cut pages that let doodles appear in different scenes add to the inspiration and fun. In Daydream Doodles, delightful dream-inspired doodles take us over the rainbow and beyond. (Ages 6 and up)

My Take on the Book
This book has over 100 drawings that are incomplete. Some of the drawings take up two pages in the book and some a single page.

A few examples of the activities are: draw patterns on the butterfly wings, fill in the blank photographs with a trip you would like to take, use the doodles and speech bubbles to create a comic strip, and finish an under the sea scene.

Your child is encouraged in this book to use their creativity and imagination. I like the focus on the child's choice. There is not much direction for your child. I encourage you to take a look at this book for your artistic child.

Little Hands Creative Sticker Play: Ballet
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Barron's Little Hands Creative Sticker Play series continues to grow with new titles that pack a giant dose of value and fun in one brightly illustrated package. More than 1,000 reusable stickers can be used to complete and enhance the scenes in each book. Puzzles, games, and other activities add to the fun. In Ballet, Emily, Mia, Lily, and Daniel love to dance. Kids can help the four friends get dressed for performances, decorate the ballet academy, prepare for the big show, and more. (Ages 4-7)

My Take on the Book
With over 1000 reusable stickers, your young child will have many choices for creative fun. Some pages ask the child to use specific stickers and actually give the page number so locating the stickers is easy. All of the stickers are located in the middle of the book.

The book is colorful, the sentences are easily read and understood. All the pages reflect the life of a ballerina.

So if you have a young ballerina in your family, this may be the perfect gift for him or her.

Dare to Doodle: Can You Complete Over 100 Drawings and Let Your Pencils Loose?

About the Book
Hidden artistic talent will take flight with these sophisticated new doodle books. Each includes more than 100 drawings for kids to complete. From a deep sea adventure to an assembly line in a shoe factory, these exciting and unusual scenes will spark laughter and imagination. Kids can choose to finish the illustration by copying the artwork's style or they can develop their own unique drawings. Splashes of color throughout and a special section of die-cut pages that let doodles appear in different scenes add to the inspiration and fun. In Dare You to Doodle, adventure-loving doodlers can add flames to a fire-breathing dragon and more! (Ages 6 and up)

My Take on the Book
One reason I liked this book was that the author allowed the reader to use their creativity on each page. There are sentences on each page that provide information for the reader, but they do not specifically direct the reader on how to complete the page.In so many instances, our children are told what to draw or write and this book allows them to choose.

Some examples of the activities include: doodle some monkeys, make faces, create your favorite pizza, and more. There are many hours of personal choices for your child in using their imagination in this book.

Book Review - Explore 360° Pompeii

Explore 360° Pompeii

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
More than 1,900 years ago, the Roman city of Pompeii was frozen in time when the massive eruption of Mt. Vesuvius buried the city, and everyone in it, under layers of ash. Today, millions are gripped by the dramatic story of the sudden destruction of the town, and the fascinating preservation of the people and animals who were there when it happened. Explore 360°Pompeii offers an in-depth look at life in the city before, during, and after the eruption. Young readers will be amazed by:
  • Spectacular fold-out artwork of Pompeii before and after the destruction
  • Spreads with stunning 3D features illustrating the city's tavern, forum, public baths, amphitheater, bakery, and more
  • A historical review of Pompeii, from what daily life was like in the town to the eruption of the volcano to the discovery of the buried city in the 1800s
Enclosed with the book is a fabulous CD-ROM with 3D model animations that will take viewers on a meticulously detailed tour of Pompeii, giving them a taste of what life was like in the city and putting them at the heart of the action. Approximately 125 full-color and black and white images throughout. (Ages 8-14)

My Take on the Book
I really enjoyed reading this detailed nonfiction book about Pompeii. The author included a CD which the reader will definitely want to use. You will feel like you are actually there on this tour of Pompeii. I thought that was not only clever but also a good teaching tool.

The reader will learn about the history of Pompeii before and after Mount Vesuvius buried the city in volcanic ash. You will see how the people lived and worked. The photographs show homes, bathhouses, an amphitheater, the streets, the art, and especially interesting are the casts of the people who died during the eruption. There are maps, captions, and many more details that will assist the reader in understanding the city, its people, and its destruction.

The book could be read independently by an advanced reader or used as a read aloud for a younger child.I think you will find this book one that you will want to include in your home library.

Book Review - Such a Little Mouse

Such a Little Mouse
 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Book
Explore the world of such a little mouse--from the bestselling author of LITTLE BLUE TRUCK!

"And way down deep in the hole
lives a mouse.

Such a little mouse,
with his smart gray coat,
with his ears pink as petals,
with three twitchety whiskers
on each side of his nose."

With Alice Schertle's sweet descriptive language and touching illustrations from Stephanie Yue, a little mouse interacts with the world around him. Every season of the year, "such a little mouse" pops out of his hole and goes out to explore the wider world.

My Take on the Book
What a beautiful, gentle, and sweet story for you to share with your young child. Alice Schertle takes the reader through the four seasons with our little mouse. You will see the mouse prepare for winter as he gathers the food supplies in nature.

The illustrations by Stephanie Yue are detailed and delicate. They complement the text perfectly.
This is a well written story to use to introduce and discuss the seasons with your young child. I feel this is one story you will read often.

Cosco Scenera Is A Great Car Seat At A Great Price! #DadChat

 photo disclaimer2_zps8af35ac1.jpg

About the Car Seat
The Scenera NEXT retails for $46 (YES $46!!) at Walmart and is one of the only car seats on the market to fit three car seats across. The seat is forward and rear facing from 5-40 pounds, has side impact protection and machine washable fabric. And it’s already receiving praise from car seat advocates nationwide for its safety and affordability!

Fun fact – did you know that Cosco Car Seats are made in America? Cosco’s first priority is family and the company is proud of what its workers do every day to help keep children safe. To coincide with the roll out of the first Scenera NEXT’s, Cosco is launching a personalized letter writing campaign. A number of the first Scenera NEXT’s will feature handwritten notes from a child of one of Cosco’s Columbus, Indiana, employees.

My Take on the Car Seat
In receiving this car seat I first have to say how well built the car seat was. My youngest was able to still use this and having her sit in this she told me that it was VERY comfortable (I will take her word on it).  I liked that the car seat was light weight, had a number of color patterns and best of all the overall price. At only $44, this was a great price, better than any other seats that I have found on the market.

The car seat was easy to use and install in my car, and the safety features were also a huge plus too! I primarily love the side impact protection on this seat.

All-in-all for the price, this is a great car seat that I would highly recommend to any parent of a young child.
